Nestle Good Start Formula & Winthrop Hospital

This is my 3rd pregnancy and expecting soon. Has anyone ever used the Nestle Good Start formula? And does anyone know if Winthrop carries it? I know they are a Similac and Enfamil shop, but with my last child who had milk allergies, I'm just preparing for this one.

I couldn't use it, I have the Nestle Boycott from the late 70's early 80s too ingrained in me from my mother. We were never allowed to use Nestle products growing up.

I use good start. It is still milk based though. DS is great on it, he used to be on Similac and had horrible gas now he is happy as can be.
My friend delivered at Wintrop last year and got similac so I am not sure if they have good start or not.

I don't know about Winthrop be we are a huge Goodstart family. My brother used it with his 2 kids and I used it for my DD. We have a neonatologist friend who swears by Goodstart-he actually speaks for the company. Most hospitals are Enfamil/Similac carriers. I wish more would carry Goodstart!

My daughter was born in Winthrop (in 2006) and when I was there they did not offer Good Start. I believe it was Similac. When I stopped BFing, I gave her Good Start (after trying Similac & Enfamil) and she loved it. I think it's great!

Re: Nestle Good Start Formula & Winthrop Hospital

I don't think they have Good Start...and if you notice a lot of pediatricians don't have free samples to give away. I guess Similac/Enfamil have some kind of exclusive contract.

I plan on using whatever the hospital gives me for the few days I'm there and then switching over to Good Start when I get home.

Hopefully Nestle has changed their marketing strategy because of the boycott (although free samples in the US market are not as much of an issue). They were distributing samples in poorer, less developed countries and using advertising which made it appear that the formula was better than breast milk. Woman used it with their infants but they did not have clean water or facilities to sanitize bottles, also the formula was expensive so they would water it down to stetch it. And then of course there was no going back beacuse after using formula they could no longer breast feed because their milk dried up. Many children died from disease and malnutirion.

I don't think breastfeeding is the only way to go in this country, but in less developed countries it really is.

The boycott started in the US, so maybe this is why free samples are not abundant in this market.

Good start also sells 3 oz nurser bottles if you want to use them in the hospital.
Good Start has been great for my son and I dont know what happened in the past but now all of the stuff they have ever sent me says "breast feeding is best..."

Good Luck!
