Did you take formula home from the hospital
I keep hearing how people take home the ready to feed bottles that they give you in the hospital. Do most people do this? Do they even bring in more then the baby will eat in one session?
What other goodies do people take home from the hospital? I def. plan on taking home a blanket so that the dog can sleep with it before we get home with the baby.
What else is up for grabs?

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
When we left they had two packages of Pampers swaddlers and then the Similac diaper bag which had coupons, a big RTF bottle and a bunch of the nursette ones (probably 2 days worth of the little ones)
They also tell you to take the A&D and gave us gauze for his pee pee. Plus a little knit hat and some other small things. The nurses said to clean out the cart and we did!
We did the blanket for Maggie too, she put it her in crate and it has become "her blanket".
ETA: Have DH bring home the blanket the night before you come home. And when you do come home, let DH hold the baby and you greet Molly like normal.

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
Oh lord, we took so much stuff home from the hospital that I think she outgrew the diapers before we could use them all! Their bassinette in the hospital will have a tray underneat with diapers, and all the things you wil need to change the baby, including vaseline and dry wipes, even a thermometer. ALL of that is yours when you take the baby home. Plus, if you are formula feeding, they keep ready to feed formula in there. I didn't even plan on formula feeding and they sent me home with a gigantic diaper bag full of formula. All kinds, ready to feed, powdered, concentrated, etc. Plus, they loaded me up with diapers before I left. The nurses kept telling me to take more, take more! So, I did! Plus, we swiped all the pads and everything else from the room, and they even had a woman come around and give me bags and bags of free samples to take home. Everything from powder to body wash to shampoo, etc. for the baby. It was like I won the lotto

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
Yes! They sent us home with about 2 days worth of the little nursette bottles. DD was on a special preemie formula, and I couldn't find it in ANY store. I wound up ordering it online and paid extra $$$ for overnight deliery...so thank goodness they sent us home with some, or she would have had nothing

No joke! I took EVERYTHING I could find My friend worked at the hospital so she gave us like case of RTF a day to take home. I STILL have a cabinet with plenty of bottles that I haven't used. I was keeping them for "emergencies" but they expire in Nov - gotta use em!

Oh I forgot that I did that too!
We just moved and one morning I was unpacking and the leftover hospital stuff was spread out on the floor and my dog ran by with an unopened package of the mesh underwear.

HAHAHA, this is what we'd do. We'd empty all the diapers out, then they'd keep restocking. I had a huge shopping bag next to the bed that I hid under a blanket and kept stuffing them in

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
OK - thank you all. So, it's good to know that the nurses won't look at me as if I am a theif -- they must be pretty used to this.
Can't wait to stock up!

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
We cleaned out the bassinet every day (formula, diapers, a couple of t-shirts and blankets), plus my labor and delivery nurse brought my DH 2 bags FULL of formula (the 3 oz feeders) and told him to bring it to the car and not tell. I had enough formula to get me through the first month!!!!
I felt really guilty about taking stuff from the bassinett at first, but I guess the nurse noticed I didn't the first night and told me "it was mine to take" and gave me a case of nursettes...(she didn't know the L&D nurse had already given me tons!!!
eta and yes I took tons of pads, those blue disposable bed liners, J&J products, etc.....

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
They gave me 12 rtf bottles and one 32oz bottle to bring home.
I also took everything that was left under the bassinett, which was a bunch of burp clothes, blankets, tee shirts, vaseline packs, a bowl...I basically took everything that wasn't nailed down

Yes!! Ask the nurses for some Formula, Diapers, Sanitary Napkins and Paci. Clean the cart out everytime they bring the baby in to your room.

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
I asked for formula every time I went to the gyno and pediatrician. When I was in the hospital I knew a nurse who gave me 4 giant shopping bags of formula--then I asked for the diaper bags and they were stuffed---then.,I told them being that I went early and not planned that I didnt get out to get bottles yet if they can give me some from the nursery.. besides taking everything not nailed down every time the baby came in.. sad..it actually became fun.

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
Everytime they give you the baby. They make sure that the bed thing they are in is fully stocked. I emtpied it everytime & they just kept refilling it. (If you have a c-section you get 5 days of free stuff! ) When you leave they give you a diaper bag & some free stuff. I was lucky the nurse emptied her stock when I left with the girls.

So did I. And I kept chatting up the nurses and when we left we got enough formula to last almost a month.

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
I was all ready to load up on all these goodies for the baby...well, I must have been at Good Sam's when they were trying to cut back on expenses because the bassinet they brought in the room everyday had the bare necessities and that's it. I'm talking 6 diapers, a tube of vaseline, 3 bottles...that's it! There really wasn't much for me to take.
I feel like I got cheated after reading all the loot everyone else went home with
oh well.

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
We took as much as we could.
Some days they woudl load us with lots of formula, some days, just enough for that feeding, so I think we maybe got like 6-7 bottles to take home. The babies are taken in at 5:45 and again at 10 pm, and so they give you more then based on your needs.
You can request what you want, enfamil or similac...but do it right after birth or they will automatically give the baby similac we were told.
We took the newborn diapers, and the vaseline packets as they are handy ( especially for a circumscion) ....There wasnt much else to take.
We asked the nurses what was best to take home for Abby and they said take whatever we wanted, his sheet, his blanket, his cap etc.
We took a blanket home for her before we came home.

The nurse told me to pack up...I did not know what she meant, then she winked. It was great...tons of long sleeve thick onsies, pads, net underwear, nipple cream, diapers...

Re: Did you take formula home from the hospital
LOL!! I had my DH bring an empty bag every day so we can fill it up. We took formula (even though I was BF at the time), 3 blankets, wipes, A&D ointment and much more.
To get the formula, they put it in the rolling crib ( normally 4 at a time). We would empty that thing so fast. Then I would have my husband go to the nursery to ask for more formula and nipples. It was great!! So worth it!!!
Don't feel weird doing it. EVERYONE does!!
