Not sure. I did. It wasn't even an option for me not to get it done.

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!
Im having an ultrascreen done more so to see the baby. as far as the results i will love this child either way but i feel that if god forbid something is wrong i will need to be mentally prepared and help in mentally preparing DH.

I'm not........to many false positives for me....I would never get an amnio and I would never terminate the pregnancy so DH and I felt that it was unecessary. I actually haven't had any sonos yet. I will be having a brief "anatomy scan" not a full fledge level II around 18-20 weeks

The false positives is exactly why we are not doing it either, and I do not do early PG amnios. As long as we hear the HB at the next visit I am good to go.

Yes it is for Down's. They check the fluid in the neck.

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!
I could never ever tell anyone what decision to make. For me, I do not want to have months of worrying if I am the 1 in the ratio.

Just curious why you haven't had any sono's yet?
I am using a midwife not an OB. There really is no medical reason to have a sonogram early in pregnancy or as many as most women have. They especially don't like to use the internal sonograms because of "irritating" the cervix so early in a pregnancy can lead to complications and potential miscarriage.
Also, the effects of sonograms onthe fetus have never been fully studied. There was a small 50 person study done in the 1970's and nothing since.
My midwife practice takes a more natural approach. The ultrasound I am having at 18 weeks is by my request, otherwise they normally don't do any unless you are having complications.

I think that is a good idea. My old doctor did very few sonos and I was happy about it. Who knows how it affects the baby?

Yeah I always wonder...you know they use ultra sound machines to break up gallstones and kidney stones, granted they use higher frequency levels but you are daealing with powerful sounds waves! It's not for everyone but I'm comfortable with it!

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!
Hi everyone-
so I went to the hospital for the ultrasound/bloodwork for downs and had a meeting with a genetic counselor...
I had all intentions of getting the tests done but backed out today- the woman was really kind and informative ...I broke down in tears- I realized that if the numbers came back with a high chance of downs- I would not get an amnio or CVS anyway...so she reinforced the idea that I would just be stressing myself out for the next 6 months...did I want to do that to myself...
After some crying and thinking, I opted not to do it-
I hope I made the right decision... it seemed right at the time

We decided that we would not get a CVS or amnio if any "tests" came back inconclusive so we opted not to do the AFP or neuchal translucency test!
Its a personal decision you need to be comfortable with!

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!
Its definitely a personal decision and you have to go with what is comfortable for you and your husband...that being said, we had our ultrascreen yesterday and it was a very informative meeting with the genetic counselor and a wonderful, wonderful experience to see the baby at all angles for the first time since 6.5 weeks...our peanut is now a real looking baby....we get back the preliminary results on fri and we are using it as a means of information...but like the girls say with all the false neg, I don't consider it a conclusive test and if there is a problem, personally I would want to be mentally prepared now, than not in 6 months and probably have an amnio.... but you have to go with what fits you best...good luck and good health to all

Thank you I loved meeting with the genetic counselor too- It was a really good experience... I spoke with DH further and we are happy with our decision...she said we could still change our mind in the next few days and call her, but we won't be doing so...

Re: NEW February Mommies to be Thread!!
So, I thought some chocolate milk with breakfast today was a good idea. Baby thought otherwise. I took two and immediately felt like I had to throw up I can't find anything this kid likes! 2 hours later and I'm still nauseus.
13.5 weeks..... when does the nausea go away?
