That stuff sounds like more than "that's homeownership" to me. I agree with the thought that there is always something coming up (and for some reason nothing costs less that $1K to fix) but I would be upset too if I moved in and had mold, roaches, carpenter ants and the other things you stated. I would be so pizzed at the inspector too. But I don't know if there is recourse, it s*cks if there isn't. But I have had my share of garbage that has gone on with my house too, I hate how much money goes out the window sometimes. But over time, things get fixed or changed. Hopefully you will be able to fix things and make it your own and love it. Def try to deal with one thing at a time with the most urgent the priority like the mold and bugs. Chat Icon

sorry that you are dealing with these unfortunate issues but agree with the others in that these are the "joys" of home ownership.

i understand that you and the inspector could not predict some of the issues but curious as to how you didn't realize that there was a dead tree on the front lawn, holes in the shed, the back door was broken and the deck was rotting?

The only action you have is against your inspector/engineer for missing problems. Our inspector missed a lot of things and our house had many problems in the first year from leaking plumbing to hidden termite damage. Unfortunately your story is not an unusual one. We ended up sucking it up and fixing the problems on our own.
