New mom here with a question

HI
First let me introduce myself.
My son Brayden Cole was born Monday 10/6 at 2:41pm weighing in 7lbs 13oz.
Wow I have never felt love like this before. He is the love of our life...I just could not imagine our life without him!
I'll post pictures as soon as I upload them.

Here's my question: How long did everyone wait to take their babies out? I don't mean walks, more like stores and family events. We are invited to a family event tomorrow in NJ where there will be a lot of kids and it just makes us very nervous to bring him around so many children at only 11 days old. I don't want to be a crazy mother, I just want my little man to be safe. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to chatting with everyone on this board.

Congratulations on your son!!!!

I would take him...just let the kids know he's off limits. I took Rylan out from the start.

As for your question, I started taking DS out for walks within the first couple of weeks. I waited a little longer before taking him to stores.

I will say that you are going to get a huge range in opinions with this question. Some moms will tell you they waited 3 months, others will say they waited 2 days! It's really a personal choice!

Re: New mom here with a question

First, Congrats on your new bundle!

OY- this is highly debated topic. My pediatrician said 8 weeks so I waited 8 weeks. Others have taken out with precautions to prevent any uninvited touching.

Bottom line is it is up to you to decide... Its one of many decisions that don't have a clear right/wrong answer!

Congrats again Chat Icon

Congrats! I just had my little man 10/3 Chat Icon Personally I would not take him. It's the start of cold and flu season now. Everyone I talk to has a head cold because of the change in weather. You have to do what you feel comfortable with. If you declined the invite or didn't bring you DS I think the host would totally understand Chat Icon

I'm having the same dilemma. My aunt is having people over tomorrow and I want to go. My mom is telling me he's too new and to stay home. My sister is saying to come. I don't know!

Re: New mom here with a question

I had my little guy on 9/11. His bris was 9/18 and there were a lot of people there! Then, there were the Jewish holidays and there were a bunch of people there too! After all that, we decided to take him out around 2/3 weeks to the mall and stuff because I was going nutty sitting at home. He is fine and didn't get sick at all. I just made sure before anyone touched them to wash their hands.

I would take him and honestly I would let people touch him and hold him as long as they weren't sick. But that is just meChat Icon

Re: New mom here with a question

DS was born 5 days before Christmas. We brought him to my BILs that day, with 6 other kids and 7 adults. He was fine, when he slept I p ut his car seat upstairs away from everyone and just made everyone wash their hands before touching him. PS ds didn’t get his first cold until he was 9 months old.

Re: New mom here with a question

This is a very personal decision. You have to decide what you feel comfortable with. If you are going to be nervous having him around that many people then do not go.

I took DD out to stores after 2 weeks, but that was b/c I needed to get out of the house and it was Jan so we couldn't really go for walks. I made sure she was bundled and I didn't let anyone touch her while we were in the stores. I think I became less cautious around 4-5 weeks.

Congratulations! My little guy was born 10/2 Chat Icon

I would take him but not let too many people handle him. I kept DS away from most people at his bris. Anyone who held him made sure to wash their hands first.
