New mommy with a sleeping question
Hi everyone! I'm finally moving over from the pregnancy board and wanted to introduce myself and my , Julia Ann. Julia was born on Sept. 29th and was 3 weeks old yesterday.
So, I have a question -- Julia loves sleeping either on my shoulder/chest, in her boppy or in the swing. For the first week, she was fine in her crib, but now as soon as I put her flat on her back in the crib or pack n play, she wakes up and cries.
Is it bad for her back/posture for her to sleep in these other positions? If so, any suggestions on how to deal with this issue?
Thanks for any help!
Christina

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
Congrats !! I think everyone will feel different about this but all 3 of mine slept alot in the carseats ( I put a blanket in there to make it comfy ) but they would all spit up so bad that if they lay on their backs they would choke on it ! So I found myself not sleeping b/c I was so scared and we tried so many different formulas and nothing worked ,they are grown up and their posture and backs are fine! Anyway I dont have much advice except maybe to ask the ped. Good luck
ETA: She is soooo precious

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
congrats!!
my DD went through the same phase. I let her sleep in whatever she liked but then after a week I wanted to try to get her used to the bassinet again so thats the only place I put her to nap and sleep. She got used to it after a couple of days

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
Welcome over! She's so sweet!
ETS- We let DS sleep however he was compfrtable at first. A lot of times that meant in the car seat. do whatever works for now, but try to get her in the bassinet or crib, even if it's just for short naps.

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
I say at 3 weeks she's the boss of you - so you let her sleep anywhere she wants!
She's a doll!!

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
Congrats!!! My daughter is 6 months old. She slept in her boppy almost every night for the first 2 months or so. At this point, let her sleep where she wants so that you can all get sleep!! She'll settle in and go back to her crib... they all go through stages! Best of Luck, Melissa

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
I was wondering when you were coming over here!
Julia is absolutely gorgeous!!! And you look great!
I don't have any advice on the positions you mentioned since we slept Lucas on his belly at 5 weeks. Just wanted to say how gorgeous your little girl is!

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
She is BEAUTIFUL!
We had this problem with DS as well - although it started the day he came home! For about a week (after a friend suggested it) - I would let him sleep in his car seat - but then another friend suggested the positioner with an incline - we put this in his bassinett and it worked out so much better! He was still a terrible sleeper but at least he would stay in the bassinett for more than two seconds

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
I'm so glad you posted this! DS is 3 1/2 weeks and last night I put him in the boppy after he was fighting going down in the crib. He slept like a champ in it!! I'm nervous to do this all the time, but it seems to make him so much more comfy. I don't think he likes to lay flat after eating (I wouldn't either ). I'd love to hear other suggestions as to what works!!
BTW, your daughter is beautiful!!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think my mom picked it up at Fortunoff.

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
so cute!
well, the problem with sleeping outside the crib is that according to the experts (who all must be childless ) the carseat and swing are SIDS risks if they sleep in them for too long.
I would avoid leaving a baby in a boppy unattended, even for a minute IMO.... Eryk is the same age as your DD, and he falls into pretty dangerous positions in that thing within seconds.
Could it be that you're either feeding her too quickly, or she has gas? Eryk doesn't have digestive problems, but he WILL squirm and cry in bed if he was fed too quickly or needs to be burped.

Re: New mommy with a sleeping question
I thought it might be gas at first, but she's like this even on days when she not have gas problems. I don't think I'm feeding her too fast. I am constantly stopping to burp her to get the gas out and to slow her down.
Oh, and if she's in the boppy, I am next to her and adjusting her if she slides down (though she mostly stays put for the most part).
I'll see how things go tonight. I'm going to try the crib first -- hopefully she decides to sleep. Wish us luck!
