That's all i have to say about this
So many great memes going around.
I don't get how people listen to him. If he told them to go jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, would they?
I think some of the precautions are legit and some are over the top. However, you can't just dismiss every measure that is put in place to protect us. We do need to do something so that schools don't shut down and businesses can remain open.
I think asking people to skip Thanksgiving after the year we had is a lot. Don't have 100 people crammed in your dining room but having 20 family members is not a big deal to me.
A lot of the spread we’re seeing is coming from the gatherings with family and/or friends. People may be asymptomatic, pre-symptomatic or attend anyway with mild symptoms thinking it’s just allergies or a cold. I understand not wanting to give up the holidays. I think the most responsible thing if people are getting together over the holidays would be to quarantine for at least 10 days prior.
How do essentials and people who can’t stay home all the time do that?
The responsible thing would be to not celebrate the holiday with other families this year if they can’t isolate or at least get tested prior to the holiday.
People are going to do what they want, but all of these gatherings, whether they’re with a few other households or several, will contribute to the spread. Most of the positive cases I’m seeing through work are from spending time with a family member or friend who later found out was positive. This is also consistent with what’s being reported through contact tracing in my state. This is only going to get worse during the holiday season.
Sorry to hear that. I know many who have never stopped socializing and I have been since May and am not going to stop. Most essentials that I have been around. I really think now it comes down to people taking care of themselves and being around others to keep their immune system up.
You have been lucky. Cases have been relatively low since May. They are now increasing. As people gather indoors without masks and distancing for extended periods of time, numbers will only continue to increase.
You do realize this is an international issue, correct? It’s not like NYS is the o ly place on the world implementing restrictions. Places like Germany and France recently implemented restrictions and are now getting better control over the virus.
More testing is why the numbers are also going up as I just saw a commercial the other day that told people just to go and get a test and test often. Makes no sense as I don’t go to the doctor unless I am sick so why would I test often with more of a chance of a false positive and numbers rising? I have family who live internationally so I am very well aware of what is going on there also. This virus will never go away. All we are doing is stopping it by locking down and once we start out like we did before more will get sick. I guess no one will get the flu or any other virus either, just Covid. Those are also contagious.
You are the QUEEN of misinformation.
The number of tests being given are not keeping up with numbers. Positive tests are growing faster than tests can be made in most of the country.
The virus will not go away but the preprint on the Pfizer vaccine looks good and Moderna will be releasing their preprint soon. Read the science!!!! Also treatments are being developed and are promising. The 1918 flu killed more people than WW I and II combined. Guess what they made a vaccine and treatment and now not as many people die from it.
Hospitals in most of the country are overwhelmed. I do not want NY to be in that predicament again.
I go to work, school, grocery shopping. I’ve seen friends outside with masks. You think everyone taking precautions is living in their houses isolated from the outside which is FALSE.
You plan to take a vaccine? I don’t know many who will.
Yes. I read the science literature released as the trials go on. Not just the information provided by the media. Read the preprint and actual data.
I have no desire to take anything that has not been tested and studied for many years no matter what the literature says.
hmmm...but you're willing to be cavalier and to continue to socialize and risk contracting a novel virus that has not been "studied for many years."
So you'll use science to justify your decisions only when convenient.
Sure, you may not die from it, but the long-term implications of infection are unknown and concerning.
In her somewhat defense, I believe CoVid is real, I wear a mask, and do so even when seeing family members. Haven’t eaten in a restaurant, etc. I’m freaked out at the idea of getting it. I trust science and data, I listen to doctors and researchers, and even with all of that...I am anxious about getting the vaccine.

Sorry but Cuomo can never dictate what happens in my own home. We will be with family these holidays. I have seen multiple friends lose family and friends through this time and they never got a chance to say goodbye because of all the restrictions. Am i gonna have a house party...no, but i will not let holidays be dictated as though we are living under a kings rule.
I agree. There are many things that can kill your elderly (and not so elderly) family members this year- other than Covid Though many don't' remember any other causes of death due to the way this has taken over our lives.
So what if this was the last year you had to be together with your mom or grandma. What if God forbid they die of a heart attack, stroke, cancer etc in the next year? And everyone was hiding and not seeing each other, not making memories not enjoying the holidays- for almost a year now. I know several people who have died this year of unrelated causes. And I get so sad thinking of how they spent their last months- locked at home- no gatherings, ,no travel etc.
And for everyone who says- it's just this year, we'll do it next year! What makes you think next year will be any better? Back in March we never dreamed we would be still dealing with this in Nov and Dec. So I have a feeling we will still be dealing with this for many many months, if not years to come. Take your precautions, but don't let an arbitrary number of 10 dictate how you spend your holidays. What makes 9 people in your house any safer than 10? Arbitrary.
The thing is, when the hospitals are taxed, people are much more likely to die of heart attacks or strokes, or other "treatable" emergencies. There is only a finite amount of care that hospitals can give. We also had medical professionals from around the country willing to come help when things were at their worst. I doubt we'll have that now if things get worse, as things are now bad all over the country.
I don't think it's truly about the governor saying there's a hard limit on people in your house. Obviously he's not going to send out patrols to keep things in check. To me, it's more of a guideline to make people think twice about group gatherings.
And you're right, things might not be better next year. But hope is basically all I can cling to right now.
I get it but as of now, where I live, the infection rate is still low and the hospitals are not taxed. If I want to see my family (which by the way is only 9 of us anyway, so we just made it in under that arbitrary wire!, I will) That can change down the road, and I'd revaluate then. Also, in the height of this in March and April, my FIL was rushed to the hospital several times for non Covid related issues and he was cared for just as well as he always has been. He wasn't left in a corridor to die like the headlines would like you to believe.
Your FIL was very lucky. One of my two cousins who died from Covid was left for days in the corridor in the hospital in Queens. Then after she was dead, she was in the freezer truck at the hospital for two solid weeks.
That's him. Full of luck. He also survived Covid twice. At 88 years old and tons of health issues He has the luck of the Irish it seems...even though he's Italian.
God Bless him. I wish my cousins who were 30 years younger and no health issues had that same luck. We are Italian, guess no luck, lol

I know. This man has outlived everyone around him and survived so many health issues including cancer. He's not well, but he has some constitution. My DH hopes it runs in the family!:

Based on the data from Pfizer and the upcoming announcement from Moderna, we will be in a better spot next year.
Also in a year, I am sure that treatment will be better.
In March, I was pretty sure we would be where we are now based on past pandemics. My coworker actually said something in April at a staff meeting and people rolled their eyes at him, but I agreed.
I hope so, but we'll see. After I heard of people getting it twice within a few months and after being negative, my hope on how much a vaccine will save us, dwindled a bit.
Antibody production from vaccines does not always mimic natural antibody production.
I read through the Pfizer vaccine preprint and antibody production looks good.
The main issue with the Pfizer vaccine is the temperature requirement as well as the needing two doses.
Read the preprints or at least follow people on social media who are well versed on infectious disease to stay up to date on information.
Truth.

Re: New travel rules
I have read good things about the vaccine, so I will probably get it a bit after it comes out. I say a bit because I have time to work from home.
I listen to SciBabe on FB and she went through the trials. She made a very good point in that many of the ingredients have been used for decades. It is largely safe. However, I am deathly afraid of needles, so I will be slow about getting a vaccine.

You do know this woman gets paid by big companies to say what she says, right?

In any event, irrespective of who she is, if she made a good point in your view (about the ingredients being non-novel), it's still a good point.
