I'm looking into this now, a lot of places offer classes online. I think it's a 45 hour class and the test...

do not take it there
I was in new agent orentation with a bunch of people that went there and they all said it was horrible- the teacher just read from the book and had them highlight phrases
the requirments are that you are over 18 and take the 75 class
you also need to take 22 (maybe it's 20- can't remember but new agent orientation counts as 6) hours of on going education to keep your lic
I took the class online with Kaplan- which the book it's about $475
$10 to take the state test
you have to pass the final and then pass the state test which is pass/fail

kaplan (like the SAT prep) was the best place to take it online that I found
I found it very easy to use the website

Re: New York Real Estate License Requirements
you can get it done alot quicker then 75 hours
when you sign up- FM me and I will explain what to do
they give you a certain amount of time for each section
like 4 hours
it would take me 45 minutes to read it and pass the test at the end
so that would leave 3 hours and 15 minutes....

Re: New York Real Estate License Requirements
Thanks!
I am going to look into Kaplan The only thing is, I am not sure I am an "online" student. I think I might do better sitting in a classroom.

Re: New York Real Estate License Requirements
any time- let me know if you have any questions!
feel free to FM me
another cost to be prepared for is joining LIBOR/MLSLI- it's about $500
so between the class, MLS and my pro picture for my company website- I spent $1k so far
it will take about 3 to 6 months to start making money depending where you work- I work for an REO broker- and I started on 12/2/09
my first closing is tuesday (exactly 3 months later) but it's for a house I sold at the end of January- cash deal
the first house I sold on 12/7 (first open house I had) should close soon- but it's going on 3 months (he is doing a rehab loan and $100k worth of work- so that takes extra time)
it's a great job- I do work 6 or 7 days a week- but I am not a desk 8+ hours a day- so I enjoy it- I am always running around - but that's what you have to do to make $$$$$
