New Yorker Magazine Cover
What do you think?
New Yorker: Barack and Michelle Obama as radicals
Release a magazine cover with a presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in Muslim garb, and adorn his wife in militant underground attire and armed with an AK-47, and there’s sure to be a seismic reaction. And did we mention the burning U.S. flag? When the presidential hopeful happens to be Barack Obama, drawn here on the cover of The New Yorker in the midst of a so-called "terrorist fist jab" with his wife Michelle, attempts at fun-natured satire are sure to be lost on the involved parties.

I understand the concept of political satire, but I think this really just went too far. People who already believed this stuff about the Obamas are now going to believe it even more.

do you mean reading the article?
honestly, if it would drive a point in the article home, it would have been best left as the color illustration NEXT to the article, rather than an inflammatory cover.

I think it is absolutely disgusting and I am shocked that the editor allowed that to be put on there. People were saying Oh well it's got people talking and Obama's people were like well that's not the kind of press we want.

I think it is disgusting. There are many people who may not understand the concept of political satire and will take that cover at face value. All it did in my opinion is hurt Obama.

I think people have already formed an opinion.The people that read the NYorker are savvy politically aware individuals. Honestly this just depicts what some people's concerns are with him thats why its satire but yes over the top. Although I have seen similar cartoon editorials in the local paper.

And I am an Obama supporter.
Clearly, I'm in the minority.
ETA: I think what did it for me was the fist punch thing. To me that was the big indicator that it was a joke.

that's the point of satire.
obviously the intent was for this to be so over the top...to make the claims Obama's crtiics have look as ludicrous as they sound when taken together.
but that doesn't mean it can't serve to hurt him either.

Doesn't offend me, I'm an Obama supporter.
However there are a lot of people who believe this is accurate and I think this cover just confirmed it.
Really though, if you can't see this as ridiculous then there is no chance you were ever going to vote for Obama anyway.

I didn't say it couldn't hurt him.
I just stated that I didn't find it offensive. That I did think it was amusing.
Compared to the other responses on this thread I am in the minority.
That's all I said.
ETA: Additionally, the OP's question was "What do you think?".
I'm pretty sure I answered the question.
It didn't go into asking if I thought it would have an impact on how people nationally or globally would perceive Obama or our nation.

Good point. More reason to hate Americans.
Those who hate Americans already have plenty of reasons in their minds, I don't think this particular magazine cover is what tipped the scales against us. At least this is JMO.
