newbie here with a basic question... how do you count the weeks?
I just found out I am pregnant yesterday and I've been looking on a bunch of sites to see how far along I am, how big the baby is, what happens at each doc appointment, etc. and I'm totally confused as to what time frame to go by. In my head I'm only like 2 weeks along because I know when I ovulated, but by many charts I'm 4, what is it?! I have my first doc appointment next week where they'll confirm that I'm PG, and I'll be either 3 or 5 weeks. Is it too early for a sono? TIA for your wisdom!

you count the number of weeks from you last period. so for example, my last period was 12/7, so I am 6w, 2days pregnant today, even though I did not conieve until 12/20

Re: newbie here with a basic question... how do you count the weeks?
Drs. will go by the first day of your LMP (last period) in order to calculate how far along you are since it's nearly impossible to pinpoint the exact date of conception (unless you went through something like IVF).
I know the norm for first sonos is also usually around 8 weeks since Drs. want to make sure everything that should be seen is seen and sometimes anything earlier than 8 weeks they cannot see wht they have to since your dates can be off.

Thanks for the quick reply girls! So then if I will be 5 weeks at my appointment. I guess they're just going to confirm that I'm PG and take blood right? And then I'd have to go back 3 weeks later for a sono? Just curious if 8 weeks is the standard. DH and I haven't told a sole yet so I have no one else to ask!

my OB does "early" sonograms to confirm pregnancy so my first sono is at 7w,1d (next monday )
at 5 weeks, I am sure they will not do a sono, you may need to wait until your second appointment which should be betweem 8.5-9 weeks
