Newborn hates carseat
Does/did anyone else's newborn hate their carseat? DD screams and cries everytime we put her in (whether we're in the car or using the stroller). I'm very nervous to take her out on my own because of this. Any advice??

Are the straps too tight? When we need to loosen the straps and didn't realize it at first DS was VERY unhappy in the car seat.

DD doesn't love it...she doesn't mind sitting in it, just hates when we have to strap her in.

Re: Newborn hates carseat
at 3 weeks mine still hated not being held. He cried in carseat and in stroller.
Does she go in her swing and bouncer? Mine hated those as well.

DS hates it when he first gets in there - but the second the car is in motion (or the stroller) he is in heaven.
Also - we had to loosen the straps - they were wayyy to tight on him.

Re: Newborn hates carseat
You should be able to get a finger between the straps and the child. If it's hard to do that, it's definitely too tight. More than a finger or so of slack is too loose.
Can you have someone else drive, and you sit in the back? At least for a few trips (even if it's just around the block), so it's a more gradual transition? That way, DD will be in the seat, but still be able to see you.
Also, can you strap her in in the house? Maybe if you do a similar thing inside, she will be a little more comfortable with the carrier. Play some games or something while she's in the carrier, so she can associate fun things with the carrier.

Re: Newborn hates carseat
My DD was the same way when she was first born. It went on for about 2 months! We checked everything and nothing was ever wrong. I didn't take her out too much b/c of it but if I had to go somewhere, we went. One day she just stopped crying about it. Hopefully your DC will just outgrow this stage.

DD hated it too. It eventually got easier but very early on I had to put her in the regular stroller and in the shopping car seat protector. She was much better in those and got better in the car. I just had to wait it out and was very stressed out every car trip we made.

Re: Newborn hates carseat
Have you tried to put in a insert like the Snuzzler.. which makes the car seat a little more comfortable...

DS was like that & then we got the kiddopatamus insert. It seems to be a lot more comfortable for him now.
