Newborn mommies...
Just curious what everyone elses sleep schedules are looking like!
How old is your DC? Do you have any sort of routine started for bedtime? What time do you generally put DC down? How long are they sleeping at one time? Do you have a hard time getting them back down after they get up to eat? What time are they up in the morning? Any kind of nap schedules during the day yet??
My DS is 5 weeks. We're trying to get a routine going but it's been tough so it doesn't usually work out! We're trying to get him in his crib around 7 or 8 if he is ready to go. He generally is only sleeping 3-4 hours, but occassionally he will suprise us with a 5 hour stretch (not very often though ). I'm having a tough time getting him back down after feeding, we're generally up with him for about an hour and then when he does go down he will fuss for a little bit too. It seems like his internal clock is set for 6:30 so that's when I have been getting up with him. And naps have no routine at all!! I'm just curious when we are supposed to start getting on some kind of nap schedule.

Re: Newborn mommies...
I think 5wks is really young to enforce any kind of schedule other than the one your DC wants
Charlotte is almost 5 months and we started a sleep schedule around 4 months. She still feeds on demand so while she may sleep for 10-12hrs, she still might get up 0-3 times a night to eat.

Yeah, I meant more of a routine as far as bath and things like that. I am far from having any sort of schedule for the little guy!!

Re: Newborn mommies...
We didn't start a routine until 4 months...from what I read, that was the age to start...
bath, play (stimulate), book, nurse...bed.

Re: Newborn mommies...
my dc is 7 weeks. he has his night bottle anywhere between 7 pm and 9 pm ( he eats every 2.5 - 3 hours) then after that bottle we put him to sleep. during the night he gets up several times to eat bc he has a bottle so often. he goes back to sleep right away, he is really good that way.
then in the AM he wakes up between 730 and 830, even if he is not hungry. he is sooooo cranky in the AM so I spend my whole morning carrying him around. then he waits for his next bottle and after that, he does what he wants. we have no schedule during the day as far as naps go. he wakes up out of a dead sleep to eat like clockwork so his whole little life revolves around his bottle sometimes I feel like he is awake the entire day.
ETA: there is no bath time. he hates baths so I only give him when he really needs it!!

Re: Newborn mommies...
Emerson is 6 weeks now and to be honest, we're not trying to get her on an official schedule as of yet. We try and work out her bottles so that we're in bed by 11-11:30pm for the night but sometimes it doesn't happen. She's getting better with sleeping at night though. We get a good 3-5 hrs. in between feedings. She's too little to get on a real schedule yet so we're not worrying about it right now. Her habits are still a little unpredictable so we will try a schedule as she gets a little older.
How old is your DC? 6 weeks
Do you have any sort of routine started for bedtime? not really
What time do you generally put DC down? with any luck by 11:30pm so we can go to bed
How long are they sleeping at one time? at night we get anywhere from 3-5hrs depending on her
Do you have a hard time getting them back down after they get up to eat? not usually.....the bottle knocks her out most times
What time are they up in the morning? usually by 7:30 and then I will go back to sleep with her after
Any kind of nap schedules during the day yet?? no schedule but she sleeps a lot during the day

4 weeks here and my little man is going 3-5 hours. At night we are putting him down at 1030pm and he is waking around 4ish. Hopefully in another 2 weeks he will be sleeping through the night like his sister did at 6 weeks

Re: Newborn mommies...
I started both my kids on a routine at 8 weeks since I had to go back to work at 12 weeks and needed some kind of routine. 7:30 is bath time, then books, then bottle then in bed by 8pm.
Before the routine they were waking every 3 -5 hours to eat, but once I started putting them in the crib at 8pm they slept longer.
At 8 weeks they both surprised me. My DD slept from 8 - 6 and my DS slept 8 - 3 ate then back to bed until 6 or 7.

Re: Newborn mommies...
Brody just turned 7 weeks yesterday.
He is my second child, so I am a lot more relaxed as far a schedule this time. I tried so hard to do it with my DD.
He east every 3 hours around the clock. Sometimes in the day it will be sooner- like 2 1/2 hours.
He doesn't have an actual nap time or bed time. In the daytimes, I keep him around where all of the action is, and if he sleeps he sleeps- which he pretty much does most of the time. I am also forced to bring him to all of my DD's school and activities. He doesn't seem to mind.
At night, I top him off with a bottle asleep or awake at about 11 pm. He the goes to sleep in the bassinet in our room. Then he will get up at about 2am and 5 am. We just feed him, change him and put him right back to sleep.
He does have a fussy time everyday between 7 and 10 pm. The Dr said it was colic, but it doesn't seem that bad to me.
Does anyone put the rice cereal in the night tiime bottle? I met a Mom of a 3 month old, and she said that she puts it in the last bottle of the night and he sleeps 8 hrs!!

Re: Newborn mommies...
Sydnie is 9 weeks old and just started sleeping in he crib. She wakes up at 5 a.m. gets a bottle and goes back to sleep (in our bed with us) until 8ish. Then she wakes, I change her and she eats again. A short nap sometime before 12. 12:00 bottle, 1-4 nap usually. 4-6 p.m. varies. 6:30 bath, 7 p.m. bottle, then book, then bed (crib). She usually falls asleep by 9 and sleeps til 5. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but w're working on it.
I have found naps to be the hardest thing to schedule Write down what he does for a few days and you'll see a pattern. 5 weeks is still very young for a schedule. I tried it too then and got very frustrated. It's getting easier now.

LOL, it's funny you bring this up. Both my mom AND my MIL keep suggesting that I do this because they did this with all their kids. I keep telling them that now they wait until 4 months to start. But trust me, I've been temted! There are days that it feels like he is the bottomless pit!!

Re: Newborn mommies...
DD is two months.
We consider her last feeding the one that happens at around 10 or 11pm though we will be making that earlier VERY soon. After that feeding and a diaper change, we put her down in a swaddle. She will sleep from 3-4 hours (only at night when swaddled). She usually goes right back to bed as I try not to engage her and get her all riled up while she is eating. She gets up around 2am and anywhere between 6-7. After that last early mornign feeding, I am up for the day but she takes a short nap - long enough for me to eat breakfast. We don't have any nap schedules. This is her day:
eat poop be cute nap
repeat
Her body makes its own schedule during the day which is generally every 2-3 hours.

Re: Newborn mommies...
DS is 8 weeks old
we don't have a real routine - some nights he gets a bath, but most nights i just notice when he is tired so i out his pj's on, put him in his swaddle me, nurse him and put him in his crib. most of the time he falls asleep nursing but if he doesn't i put him on my shoulder (like i was going to burp him) and he falls asleep that way. we have also been trying to use the pacifier to get him to sleep, it looks like it's starting to work. (i do that mostly for naps though)
he has been going down between 7 and 8pm the past 2 weeks - 9pm if we are out.
i could usually count on him to sleep until 2 or 3 but lately he has been sleeping later, until 4 or so. every so often he gets up at 12 or 1 really hungry but goes right back down after he eats.
sometimes when he gets up to eat at 4 or 5 he has trouble going back down but it's usually because he is gassy. i pick him up if he is crying and try to burp him, that usually gets him to fall asleep again.
DS is usually up for the day around 7 or 8 - but he is ready for a nap only an hour or two later. he is still sleeping about 18 hours a day.
he doesn't have a nap schedule per se - he naps less in the morning (maybe for an hour or two if i am lucky, and sometimes he catnaps thru the morning) but he always naps for a while in the afternoon - sometimes for 3-4 hours.
i didn't put him on this routine - he did it himself!! i am just following his lead for naps i just put him down (sometimes swaddled, sometimes not) when he starts yawning. at night he gets fussy between 5 and 6 so i start winding him down and and when he falls asleep i put him in his crib.
ETA: at 5 weeks, he was going to bed between 8 and 9, sometimes 10, and he was still getting up for a feeding at 12, 1am and again at 4am. he just started with this "schedule" very recently.

Re: Newborn mommies...
Lexie is 7.5 weeks old Usually she will nurse around 12 and will wake up again around 4-5 nurse again then sleep till about 7:30 . We will then go back to sleep for another 2+ hours. She is pretty regular on that routine. She falls right back asleep between feedings. During the day she will nap whenever she falls asleep. She nurses about every 2 hours during the day. I am usually holding her most of the day, sometimes she is in her boppy chair. She is really a great baby

Re: Newborn mommies...
Bis 2 weeks old. We do not have a routine started for bedtime because he is making the rules right now. We try to put him down after every feeding, however it seems like it is taking about an hour to get him to eat, changed, and back to sleep each time. He goes 2.5 to 3 hours between each feeding. Sometimes he only goes to sleep about 45 minutes before his next feeding.
I try to keep the lights off at night so he'll go down to sleep easier, but he seems to like to stay awake more at night than during the day.

Re: Newborn mommies...
Kayla is 1 1/2 weeks old. She was getting up like clockwork every 2 hours in the beginning and it took an hour to feed her. When my milk came in it only took half an hour. The last couple days she seems to be sleeping for longer stretches --2-3 hours. She usually goes right down at night after feedings. I don't have a routine yet, but am going to start putting her down at 8 since I am going to be going back to work in 6 weeks.

Re: Newborn mommies...
How old is your DC? Reilly is 3 weeks old
Do you have any sort of routine started for bedtime? Not really... we giver her a bottle, swaddle her up and put her in the bassinet when we are ready to go to bed.
What time do you generally put DC down? Depending on how often she had her bottles thruout the day will determine what time her 'last bottle' before we put her down will be. Usually it is 9-11pm.
How long are they sleeping at one time? Every 3-4 hours
Do you have a hard time getting them back down after they get up to eat? Sometimes. Reilly is very gassy and also spits up/vomits a lot when taking her bottle, so there are times that it takes her an hour to go back to bed after finishing her bottle.
What time are they up in the morning? Depends on what time her latest night bottle was given. She is usually up around 8:30am but if I am exhausted then I will put her back in her bassinet after her bottle so I can sleep more!
Any kind of nap schedules during the day yet?? Nope. She does her own thing. I keep her in her car seat alot snapped into her Snap n Go. This way her bottle will stay down [since she spits up a lot in her sleep] and so I can keep her near me when I have things in the house to do.

This is a farce... if the child is going to sleep for 8 hours, it's b/c that's what they want/need.
Don't do it if you don't need to. Wait until the 4 month mark like ped's suggest.
ETA: When I say need to - I mean that your DC has reflux.
