Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?

I'm not a huge fan Chat Icon

Katherine is 21 months and Abby is 1 month--I sooooo prefer the toddler stage!

Am I in the minority??? My MIL, and two friends who have newborns just love this stage--I think they're nuts. As the month has gone on, I've been enjoying it more, but not that much! Chat Icon

What do you think??

Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?

I personally hated the first few months, DD was colicky...
DD is now 15 months and so much fun although challenging of course...

Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?

ABSOLUTELY hated it. But, that's probably because my daughter was colic, and NEVER easy going. She rarely slept, and when she was awake, she was always fussing. My only memories of those first 6 months was rocking, holding, shushing, pacing, doing ANYTHING to get her to stop crying. And, of course, the relentless lack of sleep.

I was just thinking about it last night because we had such an awesome weekend with Alex. We went to a party with her, where she laughed hysterically for 20 minutes on the trampoline with DH. Spent the rest of the day hanging out with neighbors who have a daughter the same age, in our kiddie pool, while the kiddies splashed about. Yesterday, we spent more time with friends and their kids, as Alex ran around saying the funniest things in the world, putting us all in hysterics.

It was a memorable, fun, interactive weekend. I really don't miss the days of giving 150% of myself and getting nothing in return. Granted, the terrible two's aren't fun, but at least I get something back now - I mean, there's really nothing better than getting my daughter ready for bed, putting her in her pj's, reading her books with her, and then getting a great big bear hug while she says "I wuv oo mommy" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Dont like it. Paige is 4 months and I still dont like it. She is so cranky all the time. I love her to death but cant wait until she can do things on her own. She is always fussing and crying. Im sure i will miss this stage (everyone tells me) but i cant wait until she can hug me and kiss me and be an over all happy baby.

I'm loving the toddler stage more than the newborn stage.

I loved the newborn stage. The only thing I hated was pumping at work because I had limited supply.
My son was the most easygoing child and hardly ever cried. He has no stomach issues and had the best personality!

Right now he is in his terrible 2's but I still enjoy this time too. He is learning new things everyday and I am amazed that my little baby is not a baby anymore. I can't wait to see the little man he will become!

Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?

i found the newborn stage difficult. i was a first time mom, i was so nervous over EVERYTHING. i had no sleep, and trying to figure out feedings, and how to dress the baby and oh so many other things. i find when they get older it definitly gets easier. different, but easier.

Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?

I loved the first couple of weeks... I was on such an emotional high. But after week 4 or so - the the TIRED kicked in. And there is nothing in the manner of gratification from the little person you are working so hard for. As they get older you can see the love in their eyes - the smiles, then the hugs and wet kisses. Then hearing them call you mommy makes it all worth while... but in the early stage it is just floppy arms, spit up, poop and straight up hunger when they look at you.

I love the newborn stage... I'm lucky to have had two good babies. I'm so not loving the toddler stage. While Nate can be entertaining sometimes, there are times when I just want to scream at the top of my lungs.

I didnt like the newborn stage either, especially with twins. One being Colicky and never sleeping, dealing with crying babies, getting them on the same schedule.
Now that they are almost 9 months...IM LOVING itChat Icon

I have a 1 and 3 year old right now. I would take the newborn stage at any time over the toddler stage. I feel like I am in hell at times here!

I wasn't crazy about the newborn stage. I've been enjoying DD more and more the older she's getting so we'll see about the toddler stage.

I loved the newborn stage and am loving the infant stage. I'll let you know when I get to the toddler stage. Aside from a few weeks of waking up from teething, I had NO problems. He is such an angel.

I'm just nervous about how my next is going to be Chat Icon

I loved the newborn stage as well, but it was probably due to Bella being such an easy baby.

Newborn stage was SO easy compared to the toddler stage... I just didn't like walking around like I was in a fog from the lack of sleep.

LOVED the newborn stage....now that DD is 16mths she is so much fun but stuck in everything....so I think I will appreciate the newborn stage even more when the time comes around with my second...its SO much easier even though I was BF round the clock...and so much easier to take them places when they are small.

I agree. If I hear "No, that's mine!" one more time today every toy is going in the garage. Chat Icon

So far, I like the newborn and infant stages--however, I also have a pretty easy baby. I doubt that I would enjoy it so much if he had colic!

Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?

I personally did NOT like the newborn stage at all...in fact, I disliked it so much there were times I questioned if I'd ever have anymore children because I couldn't imagine going through it again Chat Icon

Nikolas wasn't the easiest baby though.. he has bad reflux and colicy so I just wasn't getting anything out of it, he seemed miserable, I WAS miserable, etc, etc.

Right now I am enjoying him SO MUCH.. I love this age (he is 8 months and so much fun) and I cannot wait for the toddler stage!

I am sure my opinions of this will change when he is a toddler, though Chat Icon

Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?

I hated the first couple of months because of my PPD. After that he was a dream child. I love that he can communicate and has his own personality but entering the terrible two's I'm not really sure. I feel like I could do more when he was an infant. I'm uncertain.Chat Icon
