Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?

ABSOLUTELY hated it. But, that's probably because my daughter was colic, and NEVER easy going. She rarely slept, and when she was awake, she was always fussing. My only memories of those first 6 months was rocking, holding, shushing, pacing, doing ANYTHING to get her to stop crying. And, of course, the relentless lack of sleep.
I was just thinking about it last night because we had such an awesome weekend with Alex. We went to a party with her, where she laughed hysterically for 20 minutes on the trampoline with DH. Spent the rest of the day hanging out with neighbors who have a daughter the same age, in our kiddie pool, while the kiddies splashed about. Yesterday, we spent more time with friends and their kids, as Alex ran around saying the funniest things in the world, putting us all in hysterics.
It was a memorable, fun, interactive weekend. I really don't miss the days of giving 150% of myself and getting nothing in return. Granted, the terrible two's aren't fun, but at least I get something back now - I mean, there's really nothing better than getting my daughter ready for bed, putting her in her pj's, reading her books with her, and then getting a great big bear hug while she says "I wuv oo mommy"
what she said I feel the same exact way and Ds was colicky as well so maybe that has something to do with it all.

I have a 1 and 3 year old right now. I would take the newborn stage at any time over the toddler stage. I feel like I am in hell at times here!
My thoughts exactly! When you have a newborn and a toddler, it depends on the day, which stage I'm liking better!

My DD had colic so I love where we are heading. She's 8 months and no longer has colic but still has a very sensitive disposition. I hope things keep looking up and she grows up more and more! I am finally getting to enjoy her.

Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?
Well, I have nothing to base it on, but for the most part, I love it! Yes, I have had my frustrating nights of not sleeping, but he has been such a good baby, and he's so happy. I also love that I can hold him all I want and he's not pushing me away yet... We play with him on my lap and I dont have to chase him! I also love kissing him.... I know I will love him in every stage, but so far I have never said I cant wait for this to be over. I know it will be over soon enough... I tell everyone that I refuse to say, " I cant wait until..."
So far, he is the best thing in my life. Everything else is getting to me, but he is always so wonderfully simple and perfect right now....

Do NOT love the newborn stage. Aside for being so anxious and dealing with all the body changes, the lack of sleep kills me. Plus, I find little babies so boring.
As DD gets older, I find I am enjoying her more and more. JMO

Hated it- colic is so unfair to parents.
I will be better prepared the second time around.
DD is 10 moths and I could eat her up she is so cute.

I so hated the newborn stage but I also had a difficult baby. Still have a difficult toddler in many ways. But hated hated hated the newborn stage so much that I always question doing it again.
I wish I could deliver a 6 month old baby!

Loved the newborn stage but DD was/is such a good baby. She slept all the time. I'm actually more exhausted now running after her then when she was a newborn. I can only imagine how exhausted I'll be when she starts walking!

I loved the newborn stage as well, but it was probably due to Bella being such an easy baby.

I have been loving it- so much that I wish that having 3 kids was a realistic idea! BUT Emma is an easy baby and I don't have toddler experience yet.

Re: Newborn stage--Hate it, love it, or what?
As for the feeling that you don't get anythng back from a newborn, I may be in the minority here - I thought he would just be this passive newborn, but right from the start, he was very focused and alert - he would give great eye contact, and began smiling at 2 weeks! I may be lucky and perhaps #2 will be so different, but I felt he gave back right away - its even why he woke up so much at night - he wanted to spend time with me more than eat!!!

Jacob was colic so the first 2 months was not fun. Now he is 6 months and I absolutely love this stage!
