Re: Newborn Swaddle question...
I only swaddled my newborn when he was going to sleep. I recieved five swaddle me's and all got used. Five is probably a good number to register for and if you plan on swaddling for a little while I would register for one or two large swaddle me's in addition. My DS grew out of his small swaddleme's really quickly.

Re: Newborn Swaddle question...
So if baby likes to be swaddled, you swaddle them when they go to sleep?
What do they wear underneath?
So no sleep sack in the beginning? When is that used?
Sorry, I'm so confused!!!

Re: Newborn Swaddle question...
My baby loved to be swaddled all the time, unless we were playing on the floor.
The SwaddleMe didn't work well for us, he preferred to be swaddled in a receiving blanket. I had 12 blankets which was more than enough.
ETA: We always swaddled him when sleeping, he slept much much better that way. He would wear PJs underneath but he was a Dec. baby. For a summer baby a onesie may be enough.

I would register for more than one so you always have one on hand when you do laundry.
I only swaddle DD for naps in the crib and bedtime.

Re: Newborn Swaddle question...
So even if you're not supposed to have blankets in your crib, a receiving blanket used to swaddle baby is okay?
They won't be able to unroll themselves out of the blanket?

I tried to use a sleep sack in the begining but he would startle so often he would never be asleep for long. You will want to use the sleep sack when you no longer swaddle your baby.

I swaddle my 2mo old before she goes to sleep. I use the swaddle me over her pajamas, or if it's hot, a onesie.

Re: Newborn Swaddle question...
I swaddle my month old definitely before he goes to sleep at night & usually unwrap him for feedings or tummy time.
The miracle blanket is the key though...also the hospital blankets they give you.
I never found the swaddle me to work well.

Re: Newborn Swaddle question...
I swaddled both my children in the Miracle blanket. We had two ($25 each ) but it was worth it, because it really helped them sleep more soundly.

Re: Newborn Swaddle question...
We swaddled for sleeping at night, for naps and when he was fussy - which quite frankly was all the time at the beginning. The swaddleme was our best friend. We had three but I should have had more bc my DS is a spitter and I felt like I was washing them constantly.
Eta: they say most babies like to be swaddled but some don't like it at all. So I would have a couple on hand but don't go crazy bc you may not use them as much. The hospital blankets work great too.

Same for me. I used the Swaddle Me for nighttime, naps and fussy times.
I never used the hospital blankets/receiving blankets. I could never swaddle tight enough with those and DS would just end up breaking out of them. I had the same fear as you about having loose blankets in the crib.
I would register for 3-4 small swaddle mes, and like a PP said, 1-2 large. They come in fleece and cotton. For the summer I used a cotton swaddle me with just a onesie underneath.
Sleep sacks are too loose and do not hold the babies arms and legs down so those are usually used when the baby is a bit older (I think DS was 4-5 months when we switched to sleep sacks.
But you can also register for those for later on.
