Cops: Baldwin Harbor man held in 911 fireworks calls
A tense six-hour standoff with police ended early Monday morning, one suspect in custody, after a man barricaded himself inside a Baldwin Harbor home -- in an attempt to avoid questioning by officers who had responded to a 911 call reporting illegal fireworks being detonated, police said.
The identity of the suspect was not immediately released by Nassau County police, who said the man likely would be taken to a hospital for observation and evaluation.
Police said the investigation was continuing, but did not say if the man had been charged.
Police said the incident at the home on Bay Front Drive began shortly before 10:30 p.m., when a bevy of 911 calls reported fireworks being illegally detonated in the neighborhood.
But responding officers said the suspect ran into the home and barricaded himself inside. Police said there were no other occupants in the home.
A hostage negotiation team finally persuaded the man to surrender at 4:27 a.m., police said. Police said it was not immediately clear why the man had barricaded himself in the home -- and they said no weapons were found.

there has been a lot of vandalism lately. because of the storm damage & people not being back home yet. glad they caught this maniac.
