Nick Lachey: "I Haven’t Talked to Jessica Simpson in Six Years"
It's been 10 years since Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson first invited us into their home on MTV's "Newlyweds," seven years since their divorce was finalized … and six years since they last spoke.
Lachey and his 98 Degrees bandmates appeared on "Watch What Happens Live" Tuesday night, and the singer was put in the hot seat when host Andy Cohen asked the 39-year-old when he last spoke to his ex-wife.
"Is this the point where I can plead the Fifth?" he asked. "It's been years. Honestly, probably six years. It was like another lifetime ago."
And he's not reliving the past by watching old episodes of his reality show either. "As you can imagine, that's not popular viewing in my house," he said. "We don't sit around as a family and watch the old DVDs."
For both singers, it's understandable that their relationship should feel like such a distant memory. Lachey is currently married to Vanessa Minillo and they have an 8-month-old son, while Simpson is pregnant with her second child with fiancé Eric Johnson.
Still, Lachey doesn't miss being tied to Simpson's father and manager, Joe Simpson. When Cohen asked what the best thing about not having Papa Joe as a father-in-law was, Lachey could've "pled the Fifth" this time, but he couldn't contain himself.
"The best thing about not having Joe Simpson anymore as a father-in-law is I don't have to play grab-ass under the table on Easter Sunday," he confessed.
Not surprisingly, the host -- as well as the rest of 98 Degrees -- was floored that the star went there.
"Our publicist is freaking out right now," Nick's brother Drew noted.
"Wow, that's funny," Cohen said, trying to pull himself together.
Nick continued to laugh, responding, "It may not be tomorrow, but it is tonight."
...I saw WWHL last night but not the after-show and now I'm kicking myself for not watching it!!

I definitely think it's a dig at Joe because I think most men would be happy to play grab ass under the table with their wife... my DH is a perv like that. 
And I don't think he would get in trouble with his publicist for saying something like that if it was about Jessica because there's nothing inflammatory about playing grab ass with your wife... overbearing father in law or not.

he meant that father joe was trying to touch his butt all the time!! and omg that picture-- he looks terrible now!! not that he looked much better before but geez...
i always felt like joe simpson was very mean to nick lachey and was hard on him as a son in law, maybe it was just to mask the fact that he was jealous and wanted nick to himself

Yeah I have to say, I tend to sway this way with my thinking as well. This is my theory. I mean, who knows, but this was always the vibe I got.

Yeah I have to say, I tend to sway this way with my thinking as well. This is my theory. I mean, who knows, but this was always the vibe I got.
I'd be surprised. I really don't see nick lachey as the type to really dish dirt like that. not when it comes to someones sexuality and knowing it may hurt his ex wife. I just don't think he would deliberately do that. he doesn't seem like a  to me.
eta: I think it was said that the publicist was freaking out bc it was pretty obvious that it could easily be taken differently
