i always felt like joe simpson was very mean to nick lachey and was hard on him as a son in law, maybe it was just to mask the fact that he was jealous and wanted nick to himself

Yeah I have to say, I tend to sway this way with my thinking as well. This is my theory. I mean, who knows, but this was always the vibe I got.
I'd be surprised. I really don't see nick lachey as the type to really dish dirt like that. not when it comes to someones sexuality and knowing it may hurt his ex wife. I just don't think he would deliberately do that. he doesn't seem like a  to me.
eta: I think it was said that the publicist was freaking out bc it was pretty obvious that it could easily be taken differently
He was drinking when he said it, on Andy's show the guests drink so this was the after show so people are a little more honest when they had a couple drinks

Nick Lachey on Joe Simpson from WWHL After Show:
I think he was making a joke at his ex father in-laws expense. He has made it clear in past interviews that the guy was a problem in his marriage to Jessica. He has implied that Joe Simp was so involved in his daughter's life that he was the one making decisions for her.
I don't think he blames him 100% but is has sounded like the father didn't help things.
