nikon d40...NEW QUESTION ADDED
is it worth the money? i need a new camera mine is to slow i miss all the good moments and alot of pictures are starting to come out blurry. can you post a few pictures that were taken with the d40 so i can see?? TIA. if this isnt a good camera can you recommend one?
whats the difference between the d 40 and d40x?
ETA: dumb question but does it have a little memory card to take out? the camera i have now i just put the memory card right into my computer and upload the pictures..would this be the same??

The MAIN difference between the D40 and the D40x was the resolution. I believe the number of image on the continuous shot mode was a bit higher too on the D40x.
The D40x is discontinued and replaced by the D60 I believe.
I have the D40x and it was worse EVERY penny.

I JUST bought this camera YESTERDAY! I love it!! Spent 10 min taking pics of DS! I love it!! So far, worth every penny. DH said not to waste $ on a less expensive camera and regret it!!

I got the d40x a year ago when it was a lot more money, and it was the greatest thing I ever did! It takes beautiful, clear pictures! You dont realize how much better your pictures can come out until you use this camera!

I have the d60 and LOVE it, but just got it so I am still learning how to use it... here are a couple of my favorite shots so far...
My old camera could have never taken photos so crisp. I am sure as I get "better" so will my photos!

The main difference is the megapixels. What does that mean to you? If you take a photo from far away & want to blow up a portion of the photo, it will be clearer than if it was taken with a lower megapixel camera.
I have a D70 with 6.1 megapixels & it works fine.
Trying to think who has a D40...it's the picture quality but the real reason you want one is there is no lag time between the time you press the shutter & the time it snaps the photo.
Have your DH try one once. I can tell you that many DHs on here were convinced to get a DSLR once they tried mine...

I have the D50 but love the D40 as well. In fact, I am hoping DH will upgrade me one of these days to the D40. I LOVE the continuous shoot and D50 doesn't have it.

Oh another suggestion. Check out the prices at B&H Photo. While I highly recommend them, if you can get someone else to beat their price, it's worth it!
