Nikon D40x v Canon Xti
Okay I am driving myself, my DH and everyone else in my immediate area nuts trying to decide on a camera. I have narrowed it down to these two and had nearly made it to the shopping cart with the nikon when I ready the canon review..now I Am torn.
This is my first digital SLR.
Any recomendations?

I don't have either but a lot of the mommies on Parenting have Nikons and love them. The pics they post are beautiful.

I think you need to see them in person and test them out.
I am a Nikon fan......
I would head over to Cameta Camera and have one of the salespeople there help you. They're really knowlegeable and will be able to help you decide based on features, what you'll be using it for, etc.

You can't go wrong with a Nikon or Canon, I've had both I've loved. I have a Nikon D50 now and love it a lot!

we've had the Canon Rebel Xti for about a year now and we're very happy with it. It's very easy to use and it takes beautiful pictures. I know that Nikon is a really good camera too though, so I dont think you would go wrong getting either camera.
Here's a pic I love that we just took a couple of weeks ago with our Canon. DH took it as we were leaving St. Thomas on our cruise balcony.

I have the Canon... i LOVE it- I have always been a canon person though... it really depends on preference- it is like the coke vs. pepsi debate... both are great, they are just slightly different. If you are really stuck between the two, i would go visit them in person and see which one feels better in your hands...

I think it comes down to personal preference. I would go to a place like Berger Bros (or any other camera store) and test them yourself. Hold them, snap photos, test lenses, etc.
I have the Canon 30D and couldn't be happier...

Don't know if this helps but the accesories for the Nikon tend to be a bit cheaper.

I've been thinking about buying a Nikon - I'm just trying to decide between the D40 and D80.
This is a good website for camera reviews. I've used it for the past couple of cameras I bought.

Yup, I noticed that as well.
Plus, the Nikons tend to be smaller, I which is more comfortable for me.
But both are great companies, so go and see which one feels better.
