digital slr - nikon vs. canon
We have the canon SLR but it seems that everyone is raving about the Nikon...just wanted to get opinions from people if they even considered the canon and what the differences are... Not that I'm going to be able to convince DH to buy a second $$ camera

Re: digital slr - nikon vs. canon
i think the canon is just as good as the nikon. they're both great cameras. i have a canon and we chose that over the nikon because we already had several canon lenses that we wanted to be able to use.

Re: digital slr - nikon vs. canon
I have a Canon Rebel XTI and I've had to send it in twice for repairs. It had a whitebalance..underexposure problem. It seems to have been a common problem Canon ignored in its camera's that were Christmas Gifts for 2006. I love it but don't love it as much as I should for the price Dh paid. Also I'm not a huge fan of the Rebel's kit lense so if your going to buy the Rebel your most likely going to want to buy some lenses as well. I need to upgrade mine... So any rebel mommies feel free to share what lenses you love for taking pictures of your babies and toddlers!
The Nikon seems like its easier to use as a point and shot with its kit lense so I think it depends what you want to get from it.

You can't go wrong with either. My point and shoot camera's were always Canons and I love them. My SLR is a Nikon only because we got a good deal on the camera, with 2 lenses and a carrying bag.

Re: digital slr - nikon vs. canon
I've had my Canon Rebel for something like 5 yrs with no problems.
Both are great cameras.
ETA: We buy Sigma lenses. They seem to be the best value.

Re: digital slr - nikon vs. canon
I think its a personal preference, the cameras are very similar. When we went to buy an SLR (film one) the salesmen at several places told us that a lot of decisions with cameras are made on how the camera feels in your hand, how you feel using it.
We have a Canon, and I love it.

Re: digital slr - nikon vs. canon
I have a question on the Canon Rebels. My SIL's Canon DSLR has a delay between shots - not between shutter speed - between the actual shots itself.
Does anyone else have this? I'll have to check if she has it in continuous shooting mode.
eta. I have a Nikon D70 (discontinued). The reason I went with Nikon is I wanted to use the Nikkor lenses from my old camera. Most of the people I know that are into photography use Nikons but I'm sure it's more personal preference & they're comparable.
