Nintendo DS or new bike for my 5 year old for Xmas?

I was all set to get my DD a new bike for Xmas since she outgrew her smaller one. I was on the fence since it's Dec in NY but as long as it's not raining or snowing, they will be going to the park. Her bday is not till July and I like to get big ticket items for bday or holiday. But she really keeps talking about a DS, she likes to play her brothers but really has no games of her own. I thought we could get a little longer out of the Leapster but she rarely plays it anymore. Would you get her the DS instead? I only got my older son a DS 2 months ago for his 7th birthday, does 5 seem too young for a DS? All opinions welcome

Tough one! I would say the bike for the birthday - that's when my kids always get the bikes since their b-day's are in the spring. But if L only got the DS for his 7th b-day, would that cause any issues?? If not, get her the DS.

Trish, His getting it for his 7th bday wouldnt cause any issues, I just mentioned it bc I never considered getting them a game systems more than a Leapster till his age. But the littler ones see it and get a taste of it, KWIM?

My 5 YO niece loves her DS. I say go with the DS.

I think having the older sibling who plays these things they pick up on it quicker. My nephew didnt get his DS until 6 or so but his sister has been playing his for the past year!

IDK, I always kind of associate Santa with bringing bikes. I say give the bike for Christmas and then the DS for b-day.
