Nintendo Switch
I will start by saying that I know NOTHING about video games. My son wants the Nintendo Switch for Christmas. Can someone explain to me what I need to buy? I am confused every time I look online.
Is there a way to do this without hooking up to the Internet?
Any good sales?
Thank you!

Re: Nintendo Switch
I bought ours using my Target card so that saved 5% but it's like $300 and comes with no games. I don't know the answer to your internet question. Mine is hooked up to the TV (obviously) but it's a smart TV so I don't know if it's hooked up to the internet through that. It is also portable and they can play it in the car so it must not need internet to work.
My sons' favorite games are Mario Odyssey, Mario kart, some Avengers game and Incredibles
ETA: There is a 25% off one toy coupon from Target. I'm not sure if that is excluded but it's worth looking into. Otherwise, I would wait for Black Friday.

The target coupon expired on the 10th. I found that out this morning when I went to use it.

Are you talking about the $5 off one that came on the toy catalogue? The one I got from texting TOY to target is valid until 11/23. That's the 25% off one but it's not valid on switch.
To the OP, we bought one on prime day and I don't think it was a lower price but it came with a $35 digital credit you can use toward games. The target black Friday ad says the switch will include a free game. I think it was mayo kart. The ad is on their site.

Re: Nintendo Switch
You do not need the internet to use a switch. The switch comes with a left and right controller. You will also need to buy a game unless it is a bundle with a game already. The box will tell you the color of the controller. If your child plans on taking the switch around to places you might also want a carrying case. My kids love the switch, so does my dh.

Re: Nintendo Switch
We have a Switch. Connecting to the internet is best in the sense that you can download games vs buying game "cartridges" (or whatever they are called now, look like SD cards) bc they can become corrupted (happened to one of our games even though only I or DH were the ones who changed out games); also, games are updated and new content becomes available via online updates.
Definitely buy additional controllers. Maybe even get 3rd party versions bc the official Nintendo ones aren't great, we all hate them. My kids have loved Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey, Kirby, and Mario Tennis Aces. The Super Mario Brothers game is great for DH and I bc it's reminiscent of the original Mario games.
We love Nintendo bc many games are age appropriate for younger kids and we are able to play as a family. We don't allow Fortnite or anything like that. Nintendo also has parental controls which we liked. My kids forget about videogames for weeks at a time so we never use it so can't speak to how good the controls are.

Re: Nintendo Switch
We have ours connected to wifi so we can download games. The best game is the original Super Mario Bros! We play that all the time. I also recommend the game controller holder thing. That way you put both the left and right into the holder, and use it as one remote. It works better that way for solo games. We also have an extra set of controllers for the games that play 4 people (Mario Kart namely)

Love our switch! I would look into a bundle package so it comes with a game You should get an extra set of remotes if more then your son is playing. They just came out with switch lite...I think it’s a bit cheaper but I’m not sure of the difference Also Believe it or not QVC has/had great deals on the switch and if you open a Q card you get a discount and can make 12 easy payments Also you can get your son a membership for $20 and there are a million free games he can play! It’s awesome
