No snack in 1st Grade??? Northport...
Ava started 1st grade today at Ocean Ave. in Northport. There was a note in her back pack that said since lunch is at 10:30-11:15 am, there will be no snack time. The school day is 8:05-2:25.
That seems crazy to me. She gets head aches and sometimes vomits if she goes too long with out eating.
Is this the norm??? Do you think it is at the discretion of the teacher? Should I write a note? What should it say?

DD does half day kindergarten in a different district and gets no snack. I was surprised too.

DD#1 just started 4th grade and this is the 1st year that she does not have snack.

I can kind of see the reasoning. Lunch at 10:30?? Where would they even fit in a snack??
My kids have basically the same time schedule at school, they go from 8:00-2:30. Lunch is at 12:00-12:45, so it's a longer stretch from 8-12. My first grader does bring a snack each day.

We have snack in our elementary school.
If you think it's going to be an issue (hypoglemia, etc), have a doctor write a note.
One thing, for sure, she's going to be finishing her lunch

One year my girls had a similar schedule as well. I dont remember which year though...
They had snack, after lunch, towards the end of the day.

I mentioned this thread to DW, and she immediately said "Then, they get an afternoon snack, right?"
That's a long time with no snack for DC.
