No weight gain in 6 weeks....
My ped said at at Ryan's 7 month well visit he wasn't concerned there wasn't any weight gain. But to be on the cautious side come back in 2 weeks for another weight check.
We went today and still no weight gain. Personally, I find it to be no big deal. He is still in the 75th percentile for weight. He is now sleeping through the night so he dropped like 2 feedings. And he is crawling and super active. He is where he should be developmentally. He doesn't poop or vomit excessively.
So why is my ped making such a big deal? To the point where he wrote in his file "failure to thrive, doesn't seem to be environmental" He said to me "he is not concerned to the point where he feels bloodwork is necessary, but it does need to be carefully watched".
I guess my question is, did any of your DC's weight taper off?

Re: No weight gain in 6 weeks....
failure to thrive?? that seems a bit much for me. i mean, has he seen ryan's thighs?
seriously though that is RIDICULOUS. the kid is obviously doing just fine. plus he is so active now, and not just sitting around like he was at a younger age, it makes sense that he would be burning more calories than before.

That's ridiculous All the reasons you sighted seem reasonable to me....not that I am a Dr. but still.......2 feedings less plus all that movement sounds normal to me.

Re: No weight gain in 6 weeks....
Yes. Christopher actually lost about 2lbs between 12 and (I think 16 months) and he hasn't gained anything since.
My ped isn't too concerned (allegedly, DH takes him ) b/c DS is active and drinks a good amount of milk.
Forgive me, I forget, does Ryan crawl already?

Re: No weight gain in 6 weeks....
My DD stopped gaining weight for a while last winter and didn't gain anything until a few months ago. She was FINALLY 19.1 lbs at her last doctor's visit in February! She's 18 months old now. The doctors had me worried and had me go back for a weight check after her appointment in June - and she ended up being an ounce or 2 less than the previous visit...they even had her weighed on the same scale. I was told that as long as she was growing in some way, shape or form - it was okay. She kept getting taller and leaner.

Ryan has been crawling backwards for about 3 weeks and army crawls for about 2 weeks.

Re: No weight gain in 6 weeks....
Between my DD's 6 month and 9 month visits she didn't gain anything at all, but she did grow 1 inch. The ped wasn't concerened, he said we'll see how she is at her 1 yr visit. My DS was the same way. He started off at like the 95%ile (9lb 5oz at birth) and gradually over the first year went down to 10%. He's long and skinny, but healthy.

Re: No weight gain in 6 weeks....
I can't understand the failure to thrive comment?! Seems very extreme!! If he is in the 75% for weight and eating and drinking, i would not be concerned at all.
I bet by next visit he'll be up. When they start to become more active AND on top of eliminating a feeding or two, its bound to happen that the weight gain will slow or even stop for a bit...
IF he didn't gain a thing after another month maybe then i'd be more concerned, but not right now!
