Non Chinese Food Recommendations?
Hey all!!
I am looking for recommendations of restaurants, that I can get chinese food-type of food that is not chinese food.. If that makes any sense.. lol. I am dying.. DYING for some chinese food but I can't have it because of the salt content.. It's a huge no no for me with the swelling... but I NEED IT!!!
anyone know of chinese food substitute I can try? Is japanese food (hibachi style) lower in salt content? Something like benihana's or Shiro's? Or Thai food? How about food court chinese food? That's not the same as chinese restaurant chinese food right? Is that lower in salt ya think?
What's the closest I can get to chinese food without it being chinese food?
Please help.... I must have this..nothing else will taste right..

If you do Japanese hibachi, you could just ask them to leave off the soy sauce and the teriaki sauce, so that you can add your own.

Re: Non Chinese Food Recommendations?
You can ask the restaurant to cook with low sodium soy sauce and easy on the salt.
IMHO, there's no substitute for Chinese food

Re: Non Chinese Food Recommendations?
Honestly, I think you should avoid any Chinese-like foods-- since, even if it's not from a chinese restaurant, it is still prepared similarly.
My only suggestions is to look for healthier restaurants-- and see if they have any options. Also, check out the chains and look up nutritionals on their web sites.
Also, if you cook-- you can probably make something at home that would satiate you. Do some searches for healthy chinese cooking options.

Re: Non Chinese Food Recommendations?
I don't know where you live, but there is a place called "Asia Grill" in Plainview. It doesn't say that it is lower in salt or anything. But it does seem to be more healthy than traditional chinese food ... light sauces and more veggies and salalds with the meals. You can also create your own dish with choice of chicken, shrimp or beef, choice of vegetables and choice of sauce (they have low sodium soy garlic and low sodium black bean sauces). Their number is 516-932-6503.

Re: Non Chinese Food Recommendations?
asia grill? i'm looking for it now!! i
'm soo hungry for chinese style food but i know making it myself is the best idea.. if i have any levels of salt i blow up really bad..
i may make some stir fry tonight. that may do it... i have some sirloin, and some chicken.. some veggies.. i need some oyster sauce.. and i'll be good to go..
thanks ladies..
the funny thing is i normally do not like chinese food at all!! i can't stand the smell of it..

Re: Non Chinese Food Recommendations?
There is a great hibachi-type place on Main Street in Farmingdale called Wasabi. They make everything right in front of you, and you can specify if there's anything you want left out.
The food is SOOOO good!!!
