North Babylon, North of Sunrise Hwy. Area....how is that??
Hi Ladies, I'm just wondering if anyone knows how the area is in North Babylon, just North of Sunrise Highway. It would be the exit for Deer Park Avenue (Not 231), you head North and it's up a couple of blocks to the left.
DH and I are going to look at a house this evening and I'm not familiar with the area at all. Can anyone enlighten me?? I know it's directly next to Belmont Lake State Park.
Please be brutally honest. Thank you so much in advance!!

I am not sure about the exact area, but for me, I am not too fond of North Babylon Schools. Schools are a deciding factor for me.

I grew up in North Babylon and it always was a good place to live. the area you are looking at is a decent area. But from what I have heard (I have been gone from that area for over 15 years) the school district isnt what it used to be.

I did my student teaching there about 5 years ago and it is not a district I would recommend, IMO.

I also would not rec. the district. If you want to sell in the future/have kids there might be a place with a better investment future!

I live in West Babylon (north of Sunrise), but my DS goes to North Babylon Schools. He is in 5th grade. I have NO COMPLAINTS with the schools at all. My DS struggled with school and they were great with him. The community is very close knit and has alot of programs for the kids (Football, cheerleading, lacrosse, baseball, etc..).

That's a nice area of the North Babylon.
The elementary schools are really good.
MS and HS - could be better, could be worse. It's all what the kid makes of it you know?

My grandmother lives in the neighborhood you are referring to and it's nice. It's very quiet and everyone keeps up their homes.
However, the SD is definitely not what it once was. My aunt is in administration of the SD and when my step daughter began in the elementary school there (which is fine) she begged my DH to get her out of the district before she was done with elementary. They have many issues in that district.

Re: North Babylon, North of Sunrise Hwy. Area....how is that??
Thank you very much for your input ladies. We are more concerned about the neighborhood at the moment and safety. We aren't going to start TTC until at least next year and then we have another 5 years before we really have to worry about School Districts so maybe it can be a good starter home for us. I still would love any additional info I can get. Everyone has been a great help.
THANK YOU

ITA... my aunt lives near that area and it is a very tight community over there and that elem. school is fantastic.....ms/hs all over the island, imho, are all very similar in that u have the good kids bad kids and everyone in between!!...they have great sports/music programs, advanced classes...... and it is all what you make of it....as far as safety, i think the area is safe and i think it is like any other middle class hard working town.....

My Grandmother lived a little further north in 'sunset city' for 40 years. I loved her little neighborhood.
