NORTH BELLMORE RESIDENTS - BOND VOTE TONIGHT
Just to let residents know tonight is the vote for the $39 million dollar bond the North Bellmore School District is trying to pass. You can vote tonight at Newbridge Road School in the gym.
I strongly disagree with this bond, but even if you don't, it's an opportunity to be active as a taxpayer and a member of the community.
I am praying it doesn't pass, as this will result in an unspecified increase in school taxes (on top of shcool budget increases) for the next 16 YEARS.

The list includes a lot of ridiculous renovations across the 6 elementary schools. None of this money is for middle or high school buildings.
The proposal lists things like new doorknobs for every door in every school, updating parking lots that have nothing wrong with them, ripping up grass and replacing with sod, new exterior doors - most of which do not need to be replaced, moving administrative offices, creating additional classrooms - even though enrollment is steadily DECREASING.
There is hardly any money going to students. No books, no computers, no school supplies, no fixing up cafeterias or gyms.
It's disgusting. I could rant about this school district forever if I had that kind of free time. The corruption is absurd. It's a shame, because I grew up in this area and purchased my forever home here. The teachers are great, it's the administration that is crazy.
I just feel it's time to put a stop to these crooks. With the economy the way it is, I find this proposal INSANE.
My apologies for the long rant.

This sounds crazy!! WHY would anybody vote yes to new doorknobs and grass?? I understand if the money was going to computers, students, etc...but this seems like a crazy waste of money!

Because they package it to look like the schools are going to be these beautiful places when they are done, it's really for the children, blah blah.
A lot of people don't pay attention and vote the way the school tells them to.
Frustrating.

It will vary from house to house dependinig on what your assessed value is.
But, there has been no cl;ear communication as to what payments will be throughout the duration of this loan. The figures are for first year payments. They assume that will placate homeowners enough not to think past that.
Payment amounts will change, as it seems this is not a fixed rate loan.
