Re: North Carolina Parents Please Come In!
OK I am not a NC parent or parent for that matter but as someone who works security in a school district in NY i would LOVE if corporal punishment was allowed here (not paddling per se, but have the kids in detention scrubbing desks or the bathroom walls that they defaced)...I find many kids today, especially in the middle school have very little respect for authority. I see repeat offenders in the office and think if there were more "harsh" consequences they might actually have an incentive to change their behavior. PS..i doubt YOUR kids will ever warrent so much as a phonecall home!

Re: North Carolina Parents Please Come In!
Kath- I agree that scrubbing desks would be an awesome form of punishment but any physical punishent is ridiculous!! Paddling is the method of punishment (from the little I've read online) and children have come home with bruising!! May God help the person who raises a hand to one of my chitlins!! And though I that you are correct and that our 'tight ship' mentality at home will foster respectable children and adults in the future... ya never know! Maybe my kids will want to act out against their law enforcement parents! Good luck in the schools!

Re: North Carolina Parents Please Come In!
Hey Gabi,
I've worked in the school system here for almost 4 years, and that's the first I've ever heard of corporal punishment being acceptable in the schools here.
In our district (Union County), it's just a given that we use positive/negative reinforcement. It works.
Would I LOVE to slap a kid upside the head sometimes? Of course! Some of them, that's all they need! But that's not our place as teachers.
When are you planning to move? We can hang!
