North Shore Medical Group/Huntington Hospital
Anyone use or have feedback on any of these doctors or delivering at HH?
Deborah H. Zitner, M.D. Donna M. Schneider, M.D. Robert F. Scanlon, Jr., M.D. Felicia T. Callan, M.D.
Thanks!

Re: North Shore Medical Group/Huntington Hospital
I had my first appt with Dr Scanlon last week. He was very nice. Very laid-back which I like. I've only had the one appt so I can't give too much more info but I was comfortable with him and liked him.

I went to Dr. Callan years ago, she was my first gyn. I liked her a lot but the waits were ridiculous - I used to wait an hr +. I don't know if thats how it is any more though.

Honestly, that doesn't sound much worse than where I currently go!

Did you ask to be his patient or when you called did they just assign you to any of the docs?

Re: North Shore Medical Group/Huntington Hospital
I first started going to Dr. Schneider as she came highly recommended, however after waiting for an hour and a half my first visit, I switched to Dr. Scanln who runs much more on time. I love him. A friend of mine used him too and she highly recommends him.
I have to say that he is laid back, which is good because he keeps you calm about things. But you definitely feel like you can talk to him about any concerns he never makes you feel rushed or silly about any questions.
The only thing that has bothered me was that he never offered me a 12 week ultra screen...when I found out about it and asked about it, he said that it was not necessary and can give false positives, etc. That the only sono he needed was the 20 week ultra sound. I was still a little upset because everyone I knew got the ultra screen.
Dr. Calan (SP?) also comes highly recommended.
I don't know anything about the other Drs.

Re: North Shore Medical Group/Huntington Hospital
I saw Dr Callan throughout my pregnancy and Dr Scanlon delivered my DD. Both are excellent.

Re: North Shore Medical Group/Huntington Hospital
ok, i have used the practice for about 18 years now. Zitner is my GYN. she no longer does OB patients. Dr Callan was my OB the second time, Zitner the first time. Callan and Dr. Scanlon delivered both my kids. (Change of shift in one case, and one was on and the other wanted to be there the second time)
yes, the practice is usually very slow, you will wait. but i also know, being the emergency patient (with an ectopic) that if there is a problem, you will be taken in immeadiately and the regular appts will sit and wait.
i like the doctors there. the only caveat, i will not see Scanlon for GYN, he doesn't ever prescribe birth control. (he doesn't believe in it)
if you use them, you will have your primary doc, and as you get further along, they will have you schedule appts. with all the docs so they all meet you, know you, and have seen you at some point before you deliver, in case one of them is on when you go into labor. this is what happened to me the first time, i was scheduled for induction, went into labor 6 days to early. Callan was on night shift that night, by the the DS was born by emergency C-section, Dr. Scanlon had come onto morning shift. so they both were in the delivery room with me.
i've threatened to change practices, mainly because i lived in oceanside when my first was born, and bellmore with the second. but ultimately i'm happy with them, and i am VERY VERY happy with huntington hospital.
my DS was born with major medical issues (a surprise) and the neonatologists at HUntington took amazing care of him. when my DD was born, we had special protocols they needed to follow, as directed by other dcotor's from a different hospital. there was no attitude, no question, they all remembered my DS and did exactly what we asked. (even if they didn't understand the full reasoning behind some of it) which was great. made things easier the second time around. and most of the nurses there have been there a while, since they all remembered my son from 5 years earlier.
sorry this is so long. but i'm very familiar with the paractice and the hospital and i would reccommend it.
p.s. i was born at huntington hospital. LOL
