Not so good news... some prayers/positive thoughts please

Today I went to my OB's office for a growth sono. I was told that the sono tech would also be checking my cervical length due to me complaining of lots of pressure, very low cramping and pelvic pain. The tech was really sweet and talked me thru everything she was doing. Let me preface this all by saying I am 33 weeks today. I delivered DD#1 last year in October at 36w5d.

Here are the issues: first of all, DD#2 is breech. Chat Icon NOT what I wanted to hear. I asked the tech if she was likely to turn- she said, "Maybe," but she didn't sound very convincing. Chat Icon I really don't want a C/S. And I'm a bit put off by the thought of my OB trying to manually turn her. Chat Icon Second, DD#2 is measuring 2 weeks ahead at 35 weeks and though I really don't put any stock in the weight measurement, she is showing at 5lbs. 11oz. Of course her head is the biggest measurement of all at 35w4d. Chat Icon Third, after checking my cervix, the tech told me that it is quite short and that she needed to speak to the doctor. She wouldn't tell me the exact measurement and also said that she cannot tell if it is funneling or not since she couldn't get a good angle. Chat Icon

So, I waited for my OB to call the office after my sono (he was at the airport waiting to take a flight Chat Icon) and he told me that I need to really take it easy and do my best to either be sitting or laying down as much as possible. How I will be able to do this with a 13 month old I have no idea. She just started cruising inside her playpen about 2 weeks ago and is not ready at all to walk yet. I have an appt next Thurs. with the OB, and he said that we will check my cervix again at that time. He told me that I will probably deliver within a week or two. Chat Icon

If you know me IRL, you know that I very rarely (if ever) panic, but I gotta tell you girls, I'm a smidge worried. The fact is, I am only 33 weeks and the OB is thinking that I will be delivering within 2 weeks from now! And to top it off, being that the baby is breech is giving me more anxiety than I need right now. I really don't want a C/S- we live in a colonial and I need to take stairs to get to our bedroom and baby's room. Not to mention, we're starting construction on our extension on 11/30.

I would truly appreciate it if you could throw some prayers and positive thoughts my way. Lots of prayers for DD#2 to grow, grow, grow and positive thoughts for me so I don't have a nervous breakdown. Chat Icon

I know it will be scary but you will be OK.. deliverying at 35 weeks isn't THAT horrible (DD was 36 weeks and did fine).

I hope baby stays in longer and turns!

If you have a c-section, you will be in the hospital for 5 days and then in another week or so you will be fine to climb stairs. I didn't want a c either, but I wound up with one, and although it wasn't the easiest recovery, it wasn't that bad either.

My drs thought I was going to deliver at 35 weeks and everyone was very positive about it. Can you ask your. OB if you can get the steroid shots to mature the baby's lungs?

Re: Not so good news... some prayers/positive thoughts please

My sister just delivered at 29 1/2 weeks to a 1 pound 15 oz preemie - Everyone is doing great. Her son is gaining weight.

My point is, I asked my doc when I was prego and she said after 30 weeks DCs have an excellent chance. Since you are 33 weeks, its even better.

So, take it easy, invite your friends over to help and stop stressing - that's the worse thing now. I know its easier said then done but it has to be done.

Spend time relaxing with your DD and prepare for the new baby.

Your baby could still turn! DD was breech until 34 weeks. I started seeing a chiropractor certified in the Webster technique and it helped her turn.

I've also known many people who measured ahead that made it to term. Don't stress out. Chat Icon

Here are some Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon .

As for possibly needing a c-section and being concerned about stairs. I had a c-section, and live in a two story townhouse. Bedrooms on second floor, living room/kitchen on ground floor. My OB told me I was allowed to go up and down stairs as much as I needed or wanted, just not while carrying baby. I was totally fine my first day home from the hospital, and by the time DH went back to work I was a total pro and getting me & DD up and down the stairs w/out any problems at all.

Chat Icon I am sure everything will work out fine. Why dont you ask for the steroid shot just incase you do deliver in the next week this will help the lung development. I had the shot at 28 weeks and delivered the triplets at 36 weeks without any issues. Good Luck.

Re: Not so good news... some prayers/positive thoughts please

Wishing you all the best

Just so you know I lived in an upstairs apt. No way for me to get INTO my home without the stairs. I was doing them from the moment I got home. It wasnt bad at all. I wasnt sprinting up and down but I wasnt screaming in pain. Just had to go slow and carefully. Also, I was allowed to take AJ in her infant carrier up and down those stairs. I did it once but my father and hubby wouldnt let me do that. LOL

AJ refused to turned and stayed breech. You'll do what's best and you know in a month it won't matter at all cause you'll have your baby! Chat Icon

Re: Not so good news... some prayers/positive thoughts please

awww, you poor thing! As for the baby being breech, don't worry until you have to....my dd#2 was first breech and then transverse (yeah, thats completely sideways!) until week 37 - and then she came out perfectly in 30 mins, so I didn't wind up with a c-section, which I feared too!!! - so the baby can still swtich...they will prob sched a c section date for you, just b/c those fill up quickly, but here's hoping you won't need it...

I say, try to take it easy (I know - not really possible...) and not to stress yet....talk to the baby (I did!) and you might also try a few of the safe tricks online about turning babies...I did a forzen pkg of veggies and the flashlight for weeks with nothing, but something eventually made her turn! lots of Chat Icons to you!!!

Don't worry about the c-section and the stairs - I did the stairs multiple times a day from the moment I got home without a problem.

I went into pre-term labor at 26 weeks and only had 1cm left of my cervix. I was put on meds and bedrest and made it to 39 weeks!!! So you never know. Plus you are almost 34 weeks so you are at a great point.

Best of luck and many Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't worry about measurements, they mean nothing. DS was measuring 41 weeks by week 34 and he stayed put for a long time.

Doctors are overcautious. Just sit back and relax.
