Now Why Would A Doctor's Officies Sono Machine Not Have The Capability To HEAR The Heartbeat?
I have heard the heartbeat already several times, I am an IVF patient so was monitored for weeks at my fertility clinic. I started with a new OBGYN. Although I love it there (went twice already), I had a sono tonight (everything looked great..babies heart rate was 165) but when my DH asked the sono tech (who happens to be so unfriendly) can you put on the sound she said this machine doesnt detect it. How freakin dumb, no? Am I wrong to think this is crumby?
Thanks for lenting me vent!
PS. When will I hear the heart beat over my belly? I am 10 weeks 2 days. So in my 11th week.

I'm not sure. I have never head the heartbeat on a sono at my doctor's office, I have only seen video on the sono. Instead, they use a handheld device for the heartbeat...I believe it is called a dopplar (?).

My doctor's office has two different kinds of sonogram machines. One, you can see everything and the other is MUCH more high tech where you can see waves that translate into sounds. THAT one they use for the Ultrascreens, Amnios and Level 2s.

I guess it could depend on how old the machine is. I have always gone to a perinatal office so they have the "newest"sono machines.
Depending on the position of the baby it is typical to hear the heartbeat on a doppler by 12 weeks.

Did she mean because it was too early? I know my doc said you can not hear it when you are too early on.

My OB's sono machine doesn't have sound either. You can see the flicker, but not hear anything. She uses the doppler on my belly every visit to hear it (I think she started that at week 11 or so)
When I went to the tech for my Ultrascreen, 20 week and special checks I would hear it through the sono machine.

I don't think I've heard the heartbeat on the sono machine, I've seen it though. I think I've only heard it through the doppler.

I didn't hear the heartbeat until I went for an ultrascreen.
I think the regular sono has the capability, but either I have too much fluff or they forget to turn on the sound.....
