This is an absolute disgrace! Before you have anything cleaned, find out if they need to come back to do any more sanding and spackling before they paint. I would contact whoever is in charge of the management company and tell them that I want to speak to them in person. I would then present them with the pictures and an estimate for cleaning. If they gave me a hard time, I would tell them that I will see them in court and then do it. You cannot legally withhold any portion of your rent. They, however, are legally responsible to leave your apartment in the same condition in which they found it. I would have my apartment cleaned and then file in small claims court to recoup my money. What they did is totally unacceptable and they have to be held responsible. I hope this all works out for you.

They will be finishing the spackling and painting tomorrow- cleaners are coming Sat.
In turn that means my apt. has looked like the last pic for going on 3 days!!!
The manager saw for herself today-
I unfortunately wasnt home, but DH was...
This is when the convo about them having no record of us calling happened...
She agreed to the cleaning, and said it would be deducted from Sept. rent... If the stub doesnt reflect that- I still will send the lessened rent, with a note stating that as per "manager" I should have a 400 credit..
"Manager" offered to send in their cleaning team- but DH said absolutely not- your workers have proved to be nothing but incompetent and liars- we will be using who we chose...
If things dont work- to small claims court we will go- I have a log w/ names and dates, pics galore (if you think that was alot- i have even more) phone records- you name it!

Wow! I would of been FLIPPING OUT over the mess they left, that wasn't right, I would of came home anyway even though they said not to worry, cause I wouldn't feel right with strangers in my home.
I guess what they hell do they care, its not there home, some workers are pigs!!

OMG! Maris! OY! I am actually glad you posted bc I have an area in the bedroom that looks like the ceiling is cracking and I am thinking it might have been from one of the storms or something. This place has to get it together. Now they ruined part of your weekend. what a bunch of idiots! I am going to the pool after work 5ish..meet me.

Wow they really left a mess! That's good that you documented everything. Do you have the promise from the manager that you can take the $ off the rent, or was it a verbal promise? (just worried that since they already lied about you calling the emergency number they may lie about this- if you can get it in writing now while it's still fresh in her head, and while she can see the mess, it will be easier to fight if they back out later).

I would not withhold rent. Even if what the landlord is doing is wrong, by withholding rent, you risk eviction and being sued for non-payment of rent. I'd wait until the pay stub reflects a credit.
