NPR: i never do this, but prayers please ... MINI UPDATE at bottom of pg 1.

I posted this here because I feel i know the girls on this board the best.
I debated posting... but extra prayers are always helpful.

On thursday my niece got into a really bad car accident with a tractor trailer. she was trapped under the trailer for a half hour while they cut her out. the roof of her car is gone. they airlifted her to the hospital. this happened on commack road i believe.

she is EXTREMELY lucky to be alive. And I can't help but think someone must have been watching over her. but she is hurt pretty badly. most injuries seem to be to her face and head. while her body is scraped and bruised, her head seems to have taken the most. she will need some plastic surgery (they already put her eyebrow back in the correct spot) and she has bleeding in her brain. We also found out last night she has a blood clot in her brain as well an they are fearful of a stroke. she also has fractures in her skull.

she's awake and conscious, though between the drugs and the head injuries she isn't always all there. so far she's doing really well considering what happened and her injuries.

they can't wash her hair yet so that's still full with blood and glass, but they did some stitching work on her and she is looking better than she did.

an old coworker's daughter had a very similar accident years ago and was decapetated instantly, so i'm just amazed that she lived through this accident. makes you really believe that miracles can and do happen.

so please remember to keep her in your prayers. thank you.

on a hopeful spin. . and old BF of mine had a similar accident when he was in HS. . GF in the car did not make it and he had several brain surgeries, lost a spleen etc and eventually had a FULL recovery (aside from some emotional stuff which has always stuck with him) so recovery is TOTALLY possible. . hang in there and best to your whole family. . it does sound like someone was watching out for her!

thank you so much.

i went to visit her again last night.

it's still the same. but they were finally able to wash the blood and glass out of her hair.

they also found another soft tissue clot thing on her brain. but the other clott and bleeding in the brain hasn't gotten any worse.

they are trying to increase her sodium levels to reduce the swelling in the brain before they can work on the brain bleeding and then the clott.

she has that ... i forget what it's called post something.... after a major head injury where the person becomes very different and is just really really mean and nasty. i haven't seen it, but i hear she's had some outburts in there.

really... it's just amazing she's alive. she shouldn't be alive after an accident like she had. it's a miracle.

i was planning on visiting her today with DH...but he's going to go alone instead. i can't make it. but i'll keep you updated on her status. she's going to be in the hospital for a long time.
