NPR Need advice about LI and where we should look into for buying a house
Hi My DH and live in Queens in a not so nice area we would like to sell our house here (my parents gave us the house as our wedding present)
It is in a great area location wise it is close to the city but a HORRIBLE area to live in In the summer we can not leave our windows open ever because there is music blasting on both sides of our house....
Our neighbors move so frequently that we never get a chance to be close
We are looking for a family friendly area where our DS and new upcoming DD will have a yard to play in where I can plant some tomatoes....
I would also like to be not to far away from the city meaning Nassau county.... (My father is elderly and will still live in Queens I want to be able to come in case of an emergency)
I also care about school district and overall quality of life.....
Please tell me how great your area is we are super excited to live in LI we love visiting friends and family in LI
Thanks sorry so long....

Merrick!!! I love my neighborhood! Specifically I'm in North Merrick and absolutely love it. I went to high school in Bellmore and always said I wanted to live in North Merrick when I buy a house. the neighborhood is very diverse and kid friendly. we also have great schools...which is why the taxes are high (i pay about $10K).

Just remember, that you have no control over who moves in next to you. Even if you move to a place with wonderful neighbors, they can move out, and people that play loud music can move in....

I love Oceanside, grew up here and dragged my DH here after we got married School district is good and taxes are OK for LI...I'm just sick of being in the same place I grew up in now, so am looking at North Shore soon...

When I was in law school, I lived in East Meadow-it was a lovely area. So was Levittown.

Garden City is a very nice area - easy commute to NYC (you have both the hempstead line with about 3 stations in town and the mineola and merrillon ave train stations which have TONS of fast trains into NYC). Nice town - easy access to the Meadowbrook and the Northern State. Tons of restaurants and shopping in the area. Excellent school district.
There are not many homes in that range BUT there are several in the 500k-600 range.

If you don't want to be too far from the city, I'd recommend Great Neck, Manhasset, Port Washington or Roslyn. Those towns have great schools.

Re: NPR Need advice about LI and where we should look into for buying a house
We live in Floral Park (Nassau) and absolutely love it!!! My in-laws are less than a mile away, which is a plus for us, I know some of you are laughing at me now, but I am close with them, thank God! LOL It's a great family, friendly community. The taxes are on the high side, we pay $11,000, but I think well worth it. I love this neighborhood and our neighbors, and couldn't imagine living anywhere else! The schools are also top-rated. You might want to also consider Bellerose Village or Stewart Manor! Those are both great too!!!
