What do you look for when buying towels?
I have a bunch of houseguests coming next weekend and I want to buy new towels for them but don't want to spend a fortune.
When I registered we picked big, fluffy, plush towels but they all kind of smell now (it's been about 2.5 years). Hoping to avoid that, so I'm not looking for fluffy and plush anymore I guess?
I am heading to Target anyway, do they have a good selection? I want them to be nice, but cheap.  What should I be looking for?

I do not like plush towels. To me they don't have such a high absorbency and it feels like the water on my skin just gets moved around rather than the towel absorbing it, KWIM? I look for high absorbency towels that have a tight or low loop.

Something with good absorbency and won't leave a lot of lint stuck to my body.
ETA: Do you put dryer sheets in your linen closet? It helps keep things fresh.

i got realllly nice egyptian cotton towels from marshalls/homegoods/tjmaxx for 6.99 yesterday!! definitely check there first!

I have microfiber towels from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and I LOVE THEM
had them for 2 years now and they are so absorbant, yet dry in the drier super fast - no mildew smell!

soft and ABSORBANT! Nothing worse than waxy towels that do not dry!!! 
(dish towels are the worst, so hard to find good ones!)
