nursery organization tips needed

i am begninng to organize my nursery.

my dresser has 4 small drawers, 1 big drawers and two shelves covered by a door. the babies also have a closet with a pole to hang clothes.

i have no idea what needs to be on the changing table (wipes, cream, diapers?) and how i should organize the closet and drawers. i wasn't sure if i should have a hamper in the closet or buy some baskets for under the crib to store more things? should i keep their sheets in their room?

where do you keep their bath items? snot sucker/clippers/etc?

where do you put the receiving blankets, burp cloths, etc?
do you keep tops/pants together? onesies with their pants?

sorry for all the questions!

Take a deep breath Chat Icon - It's all very overwhelming at first but you will get a system that works for you! Chat Icon

Here is our setup (I'll tell you about when he was a newborn bc things have changed a bit since then)

On the changing table we have a bin with: Diapers, wipes, disposable bags, A&D lotion

In the dresser (where behind the door is two shelves) is where I put extra wipes, and random things.

In the top drawer of that dresser I had random things: Qtips, Tylenol, Diaper Rash Creme, Disposable Changing pad covers, comb, saline solution for stuffed nose, etc.

In the drawers of the dresser I had a drawer for onesies, and a drawer for pjs, then a drawer for those little teeny outfits they wear in the beginning.

In his closet there is an organizer so we have about 6 shelves - and 6 racks to hang clothes. On the shelves we have bins. Each bin has something different in it. Bibs. Burp Cloths. Hats. Shoes. Towels. Xtra Diapers. Meds and Cleaning supplies.

Hope that helps a little! Chat Icon

Re: nursery organization tips needed

When my DD was a newborn, I had a changing table with 3 full size drawers and 1 small drawer then a door with 2 shelves behind it, plus a 5 drawer dresser.

On the changing table I had a wipes warmer with the wipes, diaper disposal bags and hand sanitizer. I kept the diapers in a diaper stacker on the end of her crib. In the small drawer I had socks and a tube of Balmex. In the top (fullsize) drawer I had undershirts and pajamas/onesies, sleeping gowns. In the next 2 drawers I had regular outfits. I always kept the tops and pants together in the drawers so it made dressing easy for me or DH. Inside the door on the changing table I had spare wipes, shampoo, lotion, hand sanitizer, etc.

In the 5 drawer dresser, I had in the top drawer bibs and hats, next drawer burp cloths and receiving blankets, next drawer regular blankets, and the next 2 drawers spare clothes that were too big and waiting to be grown into or waiting for next season.

In the closet I pretty much only had stuff that gets hung up plus her shoes and overflow packages of wipes and diapers.

This time, I'll pretty much be using the same system except that I will use those last 2 drawers for sheets, mattress pads, sheet protectors, etc. and towels & washcloths.

In 2 years I have changed around DS drawers many times!! But I'll tell you what worked for us when he was a newborn.

On the changing table I had a basket with wipes, diapers, A&D, lotion and a bottle of purell.
Top drawer was plain white onesies, burp cloths, socks and pj's.
I kept extra diapers and wipes under his crib.
There is a small drawer on DS changing table and I kept all the random things I needed in there -- pacifiers, bulb suction, medicine, extra A&D.

On the shelf behind the door in his dresser I kept sheets, blankets, towels etc.

My bedrooms are upstairs, so I cleared out a space in a closet downstairs to keep a bin of stuff and kept bibs, burp cloths, extra clothes etc. downstaris so I didn't have to go upstairs every time I needed something.

You will figure out a system that works for you Chat Icon
