Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy

I think it is beautiful how that baby is looking up at her mother as she nourishes her. I'm not offended by it at all.

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy

I've seen this cover and I thought it was just precious to capture that kind of bonding moment... we should all be so lucky! (Alex would NEVER look at me when I BF'd her).

You know what amazes me? Americans will go up in arms about a silly magazine cover showing one of the most natural things in the world - a mother feeding her baby. And, yet, do you see any of these same people writing to the television companies/producers about the violence on television? This country is so freakin' backwards! People thing it's the greatest sin in the world to show a naked body on a cover or on television, but it's ok to show murder and violence every 5 seconds on television. As I nursing mother, I found the cover to be absolutely beautiful!!! It's the most amazing gift I can give DD to nourish her and I do NOT see what the fuss is about! It's OK for people to walk around with their cleavage hanging out and high beams on but a mother naturally feeding her child is a problem??? Some people have their priorities VERY mixed up Chat Icon Very sad!!!

I thought it was a really tastefully done photo. DH saw it on the table when it came and said they were talking about it in the office and most of the men said that except for the fact that they knew it was a nursing baby it didn't even look like a boob to them, it could have been a bare shoulder or the back of someone's bald head.

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy

This whole thing seems to sum up in a nutshell how uptight we are as a nation about the whole subject of nursing. It's a shame to take something so natural and nurturing and try to make it sound repulsive and offensive. Chat Icon

I always think its amazing when women say that Boobies are sexual objects!! or when women say that its not natural...what on gods green earth could be more natural than breastfeeding! Animals do it and what are we if not animals (well, we are animals...just ones with opposable thumbs and squeezy cheese!)

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy

It's a beatiful shot!

Who are the people upset? Mothers are the ones who read Babytalk, not 60 year olds. We women can be our own demise!

I think I will write to BabyTalk as well!

It is actually mothers who are upset. In the article if I remember correctly (don't feel like reading it again) a mother was very upset that her 13 year old son saw the cover Chat Icon Chat Icon
I would hope that if I had aa 13 year old son I would be able to explain to him what breastfeeding is if he asked and make him realize breasts aren't just a sexual object which seems to be what this country focuses on them being. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

EXACTLY! My dh and I were discussing the cover actually before the CNN article came out and he was saying that you see a lot more boob on the pages of Maxim or FHM, so what's the big deal.

I didn't breastfeed (tried and pumped) and my DH has never been around a breastfeeding woman really, but even he agreed that there was nothing wrong with it.

He did however read that issue from cover to cover. Maybe he thought he'd see more? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Her 13 year old son probably sees a whole lot more watching television every day then he saw on that cover!
