Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
And that same mother said she had to shred the cover so there was no chance he couldn't see it hello!! I am sure that same boy has an old playboy magazine in his room or is looking at porn on the internet!
As a nursing mom, I find that shot totally tasteful, beautiful and natural.
This country is totally backwards, why violence is okay, and our bodies are not baffles me. And the world laughs at us! I don't think anywhere else a boob would change national live television FOREVER! (Janet jackson on super bowl)

I've seen this cover and I thought it was just precious to capture that kind of bonding moment... we should all be so lucky! (Alex would NEVER look at me when I BF'd her).
You know what amazes me? Americans will go up in arms about a silly magazine cover showing one of the most natural things in the world - a mother feeding her baby. And, yet, do you see any of these same people writing to the television companies/producers about the violence on television? This country is so freakin' backwards! People thing it's the greatest sin in the world to show a naked body on a cover or on television, but it's ok to show murder and violence every 5 seconds on television.
well said. its quite pathetic!

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
The cover didn't bother me. I will say I don't get all the breastfeeding mothers on other boards that take pics and post them with their babies nursing. I nursed for a short time a it didn't dawn on me once to take a picture nursing her???? Yes it is a beautiful thing and good for your child but I don't need to see your boobies when I post on a board. A sexy women posed on Maxim is totally different than a nursing mother. A breast feeding a child is different than a breast shoved in a push up bra for viewing pleasure.......

Her 13 year old son probably sees a whole lot more watching television every day then he saw on that cover!
seriously!!! It's a shame that this beautiful picture was reduced to explicit by some crackpot who cannot have a conversation with her son!

Wait, this is funny...
one mom said
"I don't want my son or husband to accidentally see a breast they didn't want to see."
Im sure her hubby would be traumatized from seeing a breast that he didnt WANT to see My hubby will love this one

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
I wrote to the editor with my support of the cover. We can put an image of WAR on the cover of a newpaper, and other magazines but a healthy nursing child is offensive! And even a cover of Self or Vogue could have "Give better oral sex" on the cover with a girl 1/2 naked..yet that is just fine? Does that same 13 year old boy play a video game? I would LOVE to chat with that mom!

Yes I found that quote quite entertaining. Next time you nurse ladies lets stop and think about all the men we might be traumatizing!

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
I guess I really am uptight I think the reason I was having so much trouble BF'ing was because I am so uncomfortable with it. Sorry but I really am. I don't know why though. Maybe because I was brought up so conservative.
I think BF'ing is a great think but I was still shocked by the cover.

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
I would never imagine that that cover would spark controversy! There are breasts on so many covers (as posted- FHM/Maxim/etc...). Not to mention Playboy, Penthouse, etc... or every TV show otu there... or every PG-13 to R rated movie.
its amazing, we can see a million dead bodies on TV every night, but a breast, with the nipple covered, while a mom breastfeeds is controversial??

Meanwhile can you imagine all the ribbing that poor kid is getting from his male peers. I would be happy if in this day and age the only "boob" my 13 year old saw was a nursing one.

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
its not as if the nipple isbeing shown. it could be percieved as a butt too
or it could look like a baby kissing a mommies belly. people need to make time for more important things than go after a baby magazine. its a magazine about nursing its appropriate.

me too!! Maybe if the public got as used to seeing nursing mothers as they are used to seeing breasts in a sexual way- then we can nurse wherever we want.

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
What a beautiful cover!
I am quite amused by he crazy lady's comment who felt the need to shred the cover in fear of 13 year old son seeing it! Instead of explaining to her son that BF is a the most NATURAL and beautiful thing a woman can use her breasts for, she made it seem to him that the photo depicts something shameful! What a moron! The boy probably wouldn't have thought it was anything special at all... I mean you can see FAAAR less that on that Maxim cover!
I also emailed the editors commending them on the beautiful cover art they chose and on promoting BF!

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
I think it's a beautiful photo and I don't see anything wrong with it at all. I'm a BFing mom and I never nurse in public just because I personally don't feel comfortable, but after reading that article unfortunately I'd be even less inclined to nurse in public. I can't believe how many people are offended by it.

Re: Nursing Cover on Babytalk controversy
This is just IMHO. I think this photo goes deeper to some than a picture of a boob Although, I don't see anything wrong with it at all (and it is crazy seeing as though what is on TV and in movies that we let children see) but people do get offended when BFing is out there and in the open.
How many times as the debate been started about BFing in public? IMHO, done tastefully, it's the same thing.
It's sad, but not everyone is going to be supportive of something. I guess people for the picture (whether BFing or not) can only submit their response to the magazine.
