Re: NYC Moms- Do you bring infants in cabs?
Absolutely! When Jordy was an infant, we had the infant carseat attachment for her stroller. We would just hop in a cab, strap her in (there is a place on the Graco for seatbelts) and then off we go.
As she got older, we used to (and still do) use the bugaboo top as a car seat and strap it in over the handle.
ETA: Some people I know just buckle themselves and/or their DC in a cab on their lap. This doesn't work for us because Jordy wants to wander around the cab and screams if I hold her on my lap.

Re: NYC Moms- Do you bring infants in cabs?
I work in NYC and when my son comes in with me I would not even think of putting him in a cab without a car seat. I rather walk or take the train. Cabbies drive CRAZY and I slide around in the back seat. Cant imagine how a seatbelt would be secure enough for him.

We didn't take DD in a cab without a carseat until recently, at about 15mos. And that's only for short trips.

I don't live in NYC anymore, but I used to, and I would barely put myself in a cab, let alone DS. Some of the drivers are good, but some are crazy, and you just never know who you will get.
Honestly, I would rather take the subway. It's safer than most people think, though dragging baby gear up and down stairs is no fun.
