Re: Nassau & Suffolk to start Odd/Even Gas Rationing

Why are they doing this NOW when the problem seems to be getting better?
Because it's NOT getting better! There are huge problems due to damage at the ports. It's way worse than officials have shared with us. That's what I think.

I agree, I have not seen it getting better where I live, the lines are ridiculously long and only 1 in 10 stations has gas.

I don't think its getting better and I was one of the ones who last week thought by today it'd be over with.
I just hit a 1/4 of a tank last night and am starting to get a bit anxious. Guess I know what I'm doing Saturday

I agree. Looking at GasBuddy, there is NO gas in my area. When it is there, it is gone in a flash. DH and I are looking to drive up I-95 to get gas. Maybe with the rationing, we'll be able to get some on the north shore of Queens. I read online today that it will take a few weeks to get the refineries in NJ fully operational again. That's what the problem is, the supply is short.

What if you walk up with a container?
According to the Sachem Patch: This policy does not apply to commercial vehicles, taxi or limousine fleets or emergency fleets, nor does it apply to hand held gas canisters.

What's going to stop someone from going on the wrong day and saying it's an emergency? In what way is this going to be enforced? I fear it will cause more harm than good.
I honestly don't see how. People need to take some personal responsibility and fill up when you get low in anticipation of the next 2 days. I haven't heard of any major issues in NJ.

I just hope the gas stations enforce this. And that the word is spread so people know not to go sitting on a line tomorrow, clogging it up, when you have an even numbered plate.

Re: NYC, Nassau & Suffolk to start Odd/Even Gas Rationing
im curious how they enforce this?
I know it is done to help make the lines shorter, but i am sure there are people that will be out there and see a short line and hop on it not giving it any thought....will they actually get stopped?
either way im glad they are finally doing this!!! the lines are insane! but they still need to get gas to more stations...the station by me got a delivery on Monday and their next one wasnt til today.

I am glad they are finally doing this, but I have to also agree that I'm not sure how this is going to be enforced.

its horrible by mean with no signs of it getting better. i live in Brooklyn and only a few gas stations have gas. the few that are open won't open unless a cop is there. the lines are blocks and blocks deep of double parked cars. and every day at least one of those few stations closes early due to random fights breaking out because people can't be civil with one another.

If Tuesday is their day to get gas and they know they are low - get gas on Tuesday! How hard is that???? It's not like you are going to magically wake up Wednesday morning and your gas is going to be gone and now you are out of luck until Thursday!
I predict a lot of self-enforcement at the pumps and on the lines.

Good.
DH and I were just considering driving up to CT at some point this weekend just to get gas...now we'll observe how the next couple of days go with the rationing and take it from there.
We are right in between a half and a quarter tank right now.
If we magically find a station that has a managable line, I'll post here from the car while we wait to keep ya'll informed. We're in south Queens.

Exactly. You don't need to be at a gas station every day. Unless you are a cross country trucker --who needs to fill up every day?

I'm sure the cops will enforce it. There's cops at all stations now, right?

No, not all. They don't have enough man power to post them at all stations. I saw some at some stations last week- when it was really bad. Haven't seen any lately

believe it or not, with all my gas posts, ive only drove past one station this week (didnt enter it) and it was fully manned. i just figured many of them were the same.

Not here.. only when they're called when there's a problem. Many of the stations by my office have private security companies on site.

You may not have to go that far. Things are a little better in the Bronx & Westchester. Check Gas buddy before you go.

NYC, Nassau & Suffolk to start Odd/Even Gas Rationing
I waited almost an hour this morning. Then at around 1pm I passed two stations with about 6 cars each in line. I think the key is to go mid day, and not on a main road.

Re: NYC, Nassau & Suffolk to start Odd/Even Gas Rationing
I wonder how this affects first responders...it has been alittle easier for us to get gas because my husband is FDNY i wonder if this odd/even applies to him?
