NYC people - Welfare Fund
I know it's open enrollment for the general health plan but what about the welfare fund?
I just now signed up for it and I'm interested in the optical coverage. Is this also open enrollment for the welfare fund or does one thing have nothing to do with the other?
ETA - I'm not a new teacher; I just never signed up before so I was wondering when I could.

Welfare fund is through the UFT and I thought it was automatic? Maybe give them a call about it?

I think you are automatically enrolled. For the optical coverage, you need to call the forms hotline, they send you the form and then you choose from their providers and go to the dr. I don't recall enrolling specifically in a plan.

You have to sign up. You can do it online. You automatically get union dues taken out of your check, but not automatically signed up to the Welfare fund. Do it online on the UFT website
