The vaccination rate in communities of color are pretty low. Not going to look good when poc are refused entry to places. Don’t forget tourism as well, sort of a big deal in nyc. People from other places who have trips booked here and not vaccinated may cancel.
I actually had plans to meet up with a friend from out of state for the weekend next month. Obviously that is no longer going to happen. That means the hotel, restaurants, etc. will lose our money. But who cares about making money - at least everyone will be happy and feel safe!

And yet when “conspiracy theorists” said this exact thing would happen last year, they were blasted for their tin foil hats.
When numbers do not go down because vaccinated people are still infecting each other, who will be blamed then?
People may applaud this but to think this government control ends at vaccines is ignorant and terrifying.
Couldn’t agree more. Anything that goes against the grain, it doesn’t matter what it is, it’s automatically dismissed as a conspiracy theory.

Well they say the difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth is about 6 months. :)

Not everyone is unhappy with this:
Union Square Hospitality Group CEO Danny Meyer, a restaurateur whose businesses include Gramercy Tavern and Shake Shack, was another early adopter of the policy.
The move also gained support from the New York City Hospitality Alliance, with some caveats.
“Mandating vaccine requirements for restaurant and bar employees and customers to work and dine indoors is a very difficult step for the industry, but ultimately may prove an essential move, to protecting public health and ensuring that New York City does not revert back to restrictions and shut down orders,” said Andrew Rigie, executive director of the trade group. “Any requirements need to include extensive outreach, education and support, and we stand ready to work with the city to keep workers and customers safe, while keeping restaurants, bars and clubs open with or without a vaccine requirement.”

Considering the fact that at more than 70% of Manhattan residents have received at least 1 dose of the vaccine, and 67% are fully vaccinated) I think the numbers will show support for this policy

Let's see if he is saying that in a few months when he is losing business from people who live in NYC, commute there and travel there.

I am actually speaking to people who work in the city right now, vaccinated people and they are NOT happy. Just because someone is vaccinated will mean they support this and continue their business with these places.

So tired of seeing the not approved thing. It's been approved for the use it's been being used for. What's the alternative? Wait 5 years and then be fully approved to administer and we live life in lockdown until then?

How about the FDA approves it? Why are they stalling? That doesn't worry you?

Also, I'm pretty sure I read that he's only requiring 1 dose- so you can still get into a restaurant & gym with only 1 dose.

Nyc requiring all customers vaccinated: “Keys to NY”
I have a question- How many of you Live or Work in NYC right now? How many of you are in NYC regularly right now? Not to start the "if you don't live here you don't have a right to comment about this" argument. BUT I do live in NYC. Things are different here. Our restaurants are smaller, our gyms are too. More people living in smaller areas, closer together. Yes, there are lots of places in NYC where people aren't getting vaccinated, and maybe this will be the push they need. I don't necessarily agree with this mandate, but I understand why he's doing it.

I'm sorry, but there is a good reason why it takes years to get full FDA approval. New warnings come out regularly about the vaccines. Whether people want to admit it or not, we don't know everything about side effects/long term effects. The research and trials need to be completed properly.
Right now we're in a crisis, so by all means let people have the choice, knowing there is somewhat of a risk. But to take the choice out before final approval is appalling.
And I chose to get vaccinated months ago. So I am 100% pro vaccine. And I'm still horrified.

its approved for emergancy use. FDA even came out and said that they would not fully approve until they finished their trial period. Which FYI all 3 trial periods end in 2023.

They will approve it within the next few months because they are being tremendously pressured. I dont put too much stock in full approval vs EUA anyway. The FDA has approved plenty of things that were later recalled as dangerous. So I will still wait until a bit more time has passed.
For what it’s worth, I don’t care if a business wants to require proof of the jab. My issue is the government mandate. WAY too far overreaching its powers. A hard core slippery slope. And people are starting to take a stand.

Right, it's been approved for what it's being used for right now.
If it was fully approved, people still wouldn't get it, so it doesn't matter anyway I guess.

Not true. There are people who are waiting for the FDA. People have many reasons why they don't vaccinate right now. This can not be shoved to the side because you might think that is not a reason.

This is so true. So many medications people take blindly can cause major lifelong issues. Heck, look at NSAIDS and stomach bleeding and ulcers etc.. So many approved drugs get recalled after years etc. Fact of the matter is no medicine is going to ever be 100 percent safe and never cause a side effect in anyone, ever.

So you will get it when the FDA stamps it as full approved vs emergency?
I don't really GAS what people do. But, clearly we don't make the rules and only have to follow what is put in front of us
