So does that mean children under 12 won't be allowed in stores and restaurants? We were planning to take our kids to the city at the end of August. Dh and I are vaccinated. Obviously our kids are not because they are not old enough. Will it be pointless for us to go if our kids can't go inside anywhere?
I don't think it will start being enforced until September so you should be ok regardless in August
Yes it doesn’t start until the first day of school so you will be good.
I understand having businesses decide if they want to let it unvaccinated but for places and events to not even have a testing option, when not everyone is even eligible for the vaccine, baffles me.
This brings up a good point though about kids. I would imagine they'd have to exclude kids under 12 from this. Otherwise let's say you live in NYC and have no choice..what are you supposed to do with your kids? Tie them to a tree outside like a dog while you go inside establishments?

Local establishments on Long Island have already implemented this policy. I saw last night that a broadway style play theater in Northport is only allowing vaccinated patrons. If you are under 12, you don't require a vaccination obviously, but the parents do, and the kids have to wear a mask the entire time.

That sounds reasonable. I’m thinking masks will be mandated in schools again.

Yes and they do it by choice. Nobody mandated all restaurants on Long Island to do this.

Exactly. If businesses want to do that, then let them. They will have to see how their business goes by choosing to do so. They should NOT be mandated to only allow vaccinated people by the government.

People get sick regardless, this comment doesn't make a lot of sense. Health data shows being vaccinated means it is FAR less likely you will even get sick from this.
And in the end it's either do this, or they shut down indoor dining in the winter and destroy small businesses once again. As a PP said over 70% of NYC is vaccinated. It will be nice to enjoy things knowing I am surrounded by other vaccinated individuals. If this bothers you, get vaccinated.
Their goal is to get 100% of people vaccinated. My point being is people will STILL get sick so it should be THEIR choice, not the governments.
No because it's the unvaccinated people who are getting sick left and right. If vaccinated individuals are only 10% likely to get sick there will be more VOLUME of vaccinated people getting sick because we are still catering to the unvaccinated.
100 vaccinated people have exposure to 10 unvaccinated people = maybe 1 or 2 vaccinated get sick tops.
100 vaccinated people have exposure to 100 unvaccinated people = potential for at least 5 to 10 vaccinated people get sick.
Please tell me why should I (vaccinated) have to deal with this?
80% of the group in Providence were vaccinated that got sick. Who is to say the vaccinated are not making the vaccinated sick? Are their stats on that?
When was it stated that 80% of the vaccinated people actually got sick? Maybe you are misinterpreting that 80% of the people that got INFECTED are vaccinated. Basic math tells you that the more vaccinated people there are, the higher of a percentage that vaccinated people can get Covid. That is a no-brainer.
The unvaccinated are making the vaccinated more sick because the numbers don't lie. If you are vaccinated you have an approximate 10% chance of getting sick. Every time you roll that dice you have a chance of getting sick and thankfully when you are vaccinated the probability is low, but NOT impossible.
It's the unvaccinated people that are causing the vaccinated to roll the dice more than they should.
*It's the unvaccinated people that are causing the vaccinated to roll the dice more than they should.*
THIS is the part the unvaccinated refuse to believe for some reason. It's mind boggling!
Probably because most of them are morons
Honestly, I haven't said much, but that comment was uncalled for. You have NO idea why people aren't vaccinated. You have no idea their reasons. Calling people who didn't jump to take a brand new vaccine morons without knowing anything about their medical background or reasons for hesitancy only makes you sound like the moron. That was completely offensive. You have no idea the reason my doctor recommended I wait. What a nasty, derisive comment. People like you are the reason there is such a divide lately.
People like her don't want to know as they just want to be right. If maybe they knew why people did things they would be more open and not so closed minded.

1 in 3 covid cases were from people in Texas and Florida the other day. I wouldn’t want those people hanging around visiting NYC spreading it, not sorry. I think NYC is doing the right thing, especially as a huge hub. People have had plenty of time to get vaccinated. They aren’t and they are hanging around without masks. Look at Louisiana. They have a federal response team in place now.
This is the result.
If you are vaccinated then you shouldn't worry.
And if people want to visit NYC and enjoy dining, concerts, and theater, then they should get vaccinated.
Why? Not all unvaccinated people are infecting vaccinated, correct?
A greater percentage of them are. Do I have to repeat the same statistical numbers to you? Viral loads in the unvaccinated are significantly higher than vaccinated people. If they weren't cases would be exponentially going up everywhere. They aren't because the vaccinated aren't spreading it as easily (thank god).
Again we don't know that. It would all depend on each individual and whom they have been in contact with. If vaccinated people can give to other vaccinated people and the percentage of efficiency is only 84% after 4-6 months, we don't know how well the vaccine is working not to infect the vaccinated.
We do know that because the cases everywhere would be skyrocketing. If the vaccinated could give the vaccinated the virus just as easily the hospitalization rates would be way up because of the sheer volume of the people being part of the unlucky 10%.
The fact is the government wants people to get the vaccination as they are trying to protect small businesses and in the end protect lives. I am all for that.
Nobody is forcing anybody to get vaccinated. If you still don't want the vaccine, don't get it! Nobody is holding a gun to your head.
YOU ARE WRONG!! NYC is forcing their employees to get the shot. As someone who had a horrible reaction to the shot and went to the ER I question the safety of the shot. I was also told by more than one health care professional at the hospital that my reaction will be deemed "mild" and if a booster is required I am highly unlikely to be exempt!!
Many employers in NYC are forcing their employees to get the vaccine. First we are forced to return to the office after over a year at home and then we are told you must be vaccinated. We were also told that if you don't get the vaccination then you can't come back to the office and likely to to be fired. My husband has the antibodies (we were shocked because he was asymptomatic) and was told that he still needs the vaccine. WHY?
Don't tell me that no one is forcing you to get the vaccine. Many employers in NYC are making it a requirement to return to work in the city. I work downtown-near city hall and I can tell you it's like a ghost town. There are plenty of openings for jobs but no one wants to be forced to take a shot just for a job.
I wish I wasn't bulled into getting the shot and I seriously worry about the long term side effect which I feel no one if talking about.
But you are wrong-people are forcing you to get vaccinated.
It seems that the only meaning of ‘forcing’ for some people, is if someone is holding u down to the ground with a gun to ur head .
I don’t understand why it’s constantly been said that people who question this vaccine or doesn’t wanna take it, it’s just trying to justify their decision. That’s silly. By that logic then, all the comments made in this thread and every other thread that talks about this topic, the people that keeps talking in favor of this vaccine to no end are also justifying their decision for taking the vaccine? .
I also don’t understand why is it so difficult to acknowledge that adverse reactions and long term effects can potentially happen with this vaccine and accept people’s concerns about this and their decision. I feel that even if God forbid an adverse effect happens to them, they’d still name every single excuse for it, blame it on any other thing but never the vaccine, ever. It’s mind blowing the blind and unconditional trust some people having for this vaccine.

But you are wrong-people are forcing you to get vaccinated.
Current NYC employees need to be vaccinated or be tested every week. Only new hires will be required to be vaccinated- which isn't bullying, it's their choice to take a job requiring a vaccine they don't want. As for NYC Restaurant & Gym, Theater employees being required- it makes sense. If the patrons need to be vaccinated to be able to participate in these things, then it would be counterproductive if employees of those establishments weren't required.
Question- not to start drama- were you required to get the vaccine?
My husband's job is requiring vaccinations to work in the office, all employees, not just new hires. Those allowed to work from home need an approved reason too and not just because they do not want to get the vaccine.
but, that's a private company, right? Not saying it's right or wrong, just saying, that's not the City or State requiring him to do, it's his company policy.
See, I feel like if a private company decides on it's own to mandate anything, that's their prerogative. What I'm taking issue with is the city FORCING private businesses to mandate something when the private business may not want to. If a restaurant says, we only want vaccinated people in here, fine, they can do that. But if they don't want to do that, they shouldn't be forced. That is what I have issue with.
We are not in the city (but all of NY is probably going to follow suit - especially on the island) we will NOT force our employees to be vaccinated nor will we deny service to the unvaccinated. If there are fine, they’ll be fining a boat load of small businesses and we’ll be spending any free time we have fighting it in court.
We reopened during the height of all of this. We had masks, we did a lot of drop offs and pick ups outside, we had deep cleaning every couple of hours and were able to keep everyone safe (DH and I got it either from my dentist appt or from his asymptomatic mom - though his mom tested + after us- we’ll never truly know)
If it gets that bad again, we’ll just go back to that. This is maddening
This gave me goosebumps, the good ones! Thank u! .

I feel for you. I cannot imaging being in your position after working so hard to build your business and what has gone on this past year, and now this. And I would 100% support any small business who takes a stand like you are describing. In fact I would go out of my way to support a business like that over another. And I know many others would as well.
Yes! Word by word! Could not agree more!

But you are wrong-people are forcing you to get vaccinated.
As much as 20% of the entire workforce is predicted to have a new job post pandemic. They are calling it the "great resignation". And it has nothing to do with vaccination status. People will be changing jobs, many of them for better and more fruitful opportunities. Nobody is forcing anything and if you just sit back and take a look there could be even better opportunities out there with companies that are forced to offer more flexible arrangements because they lost good people.
Besides NYC employees aren't forced to get the vaccine. Can't they just test weekly? What's the big deal with getting tested? It sucks if you have a condition that makes getting a vaccine difficult, but it is equally sucky when a vaccinated person with other pre-existing conditions is forced to collaborate and mingle with somebody refusing to get the vaccine. Works both ways unfortunately.
Wrong again. I work for the city. The "official" statement is to get the vaxxed or testing. In reality we were told that if you choose to test the first 2 can be on company time -after that you either test outside of work hours or use personal time. Also, the test can't be a rapid so if the test result is not available at the start of the week, you have to use vacation time.
We are being forced to return to the office after over a year at home. If you "choose" not to vax and have to use personal time until test results are in (for some inexplicable reason you can't work from home while waiting-but that's a whole other story) your boss has the right to take work and projects away from you to get them done.
Each City department is run differently but mine is especially strict (I feel) and they have told us repeatedly that work life will become more and more difficult if you choose not to vax. It will affect promotions, raises and performance reviews.
Colleagues have already had work taken away because of waiting for the test. Why can't I work from home was a question we all asked and the response is -The mayor won't allow it.
And with regard to the "Great Resignation"- If I leave it will effect my pension. I'm suppose to leave all that money behind?! Also-my boss had a meeting with us and we have to tell our teams (in person-not on email, Zoom, etc That if you resign, we can decide whether or not to provide you with a reference. If no reference we will only verify your work dates.
It's very easy for you to look at the "news" and maintain that there is a choice. As a city employee I am telling you this is not the case for my department. You can resign and lose your pension. But in reality there is no choice -it's get vaxxed or be unemployed.

And with regard to the "Great Resignation"- If I leave it will effect my pension. I'm suppose to leave all that money behind?!
If getting tested is too inconvenient for you, it sounds like you are the perfect candidate to get the vaccination. All you have to do is get tested on Mondays and you will have the result that week. Done. You are making more drama out of it than it actually is.

In order to avoid liability most employers now only confirm dates of employment for large employers.
As for choice, yes, it is your choice to deal with the consequences of your actions. You might not like the consequences, and I agree, unemployment after dedicating your life's work to one employer for so long must feel like you are facing an impossible choice, but it is still your choice. I am sorry that it is not one you like.

1) I have been vaxxed - and I was pretty much forced to do it. I've written a couple posts about my horrible reaction to it.
2) Testing needs to be done EVERY week and as I wrote above (which seems like you didn't read) is that the test CAN NOT be a rapid test. Therefore-in order for the test to be valid for the work week you need to go Wed or Thursday for the results to be available. So you can't get tested on a Monday unless you want to take a few days off that week.
As as for a perfect candidate to take the vax- I ended up in the ER due to my reaction and was out of work for about a week.
IT's not dramatic when you are being forced to do something you don't agree with. I'm not anti vax but I am extremely skeptical of this particular vax. I have never had a reaction like this to any other shot or medication. I am worried about my health especially "health professionals" are telling me not to worry about it an yet these same doctors are scheduling appointments for tests for me. No nothing to see here. It's a mild reaction-very common-please come in for EKGs every 2 weeks so we can simply monitor you. And come in for various pulmonary function tests.
I'm at the doctor's office every other week since I had my 2nd dose. Experience that and then tell me about being dramatic.

Some people on here just do NOT get it. They think only black and white, get vaxxed or frig you.
Funny how they care so much about others that they claim THAT is why they have gotten vaxed but they don't give a rat's ass about people's rights to their own body.
So sorry you had to be forced to get a vaccine and the issues you have had after.

What i find really sick is your an American Citizen in the United States of America but some of these people are okay with the government demanding you do as they say or you can lose your job, or your freedom to go where you want. The fact that people are down with them now being in totally control of your own body and life is sickening.
And you know what the next step is, the childrens vaccine will come out and guess what...your child will not be allowed to go to school without it. But Yes, lets all say F-it and give them control.
Luckily there is some protests brewing as i type this and hopefully some businesses stand up and refuse this ridiculous new mandate. Because if we all fall in line with blinders on and do as they say then its over. Then they got full control and this is the start of a new world.

I don't want to keep quoting because the loooooooong posts are annoying to me. I'm replying to MrsWoods. I see your point, but I don't think of it as a way for the government to "control". I see it as a way for them to try to stop the spread of the virus and avoid a repeat of last year.
And I just have to say (not directed at you MrsWoods, just in general): I am so confused reading some of these posts at times. Not just this thread - but others. Some of you act like there was never a pandemic, the world wasn't shut down, etc. Last year is a year like I have never experienced before - and I'm 47. I just don't get the nonchalant-ness (I know that's not a word LOL) and calmness, I guess, from some of you. And yes, I know that we can't live our lives in fear and despair all the time but I feel like some of you act like Covid never happened.

There is a video circulating with Cuomo saying in his own words that an emergency vaccine as the one we have now in his words "can not be mandated to be taken". Now lets backpedal.
I don't think anyone is not thinking this exists or is serious for some, however to be forced to take something that most people do not want for is against everything the United States stands for.

Still got a month before it will even be enforced......they have back peddled before on masks, just wait and see. It will take a death or two or serious injury before they start to see they are wrong.

I agree with Mrs. Woods that most are and have taken this seriously but you sound like a very trusting person. Not everyone out there is out there for others well being. There is a HUGE market to make money off of covid tests and vaccines. Do you honestly think every.single.person running things from the top is honest and trustworthy? Look at Cuomo hiding numbers from the public. How can we believe the numbers increasing is real and not just to try and scare unvaccinated to become vaccinated. They throw out this Delta variant that they can't even tell you if YOU specifically have it but believe us, it is out there and there are a ton of people who have it. Sometimes you have to step back and look at the big picture and not listen to what anyone else says. It is scary that so many have lost common sense and can't make decisions on their own and have jumped on the band wagon (no matter what band wagon that is in this world).

So here's a question If your employer forces you to get the vaccine and you get vaccine injured can you sue them? Or are they indemnified too like the pharmaceutical companies?

Yep - I hear ya! And I do see both sides of this. I, personally, have to have hope that all of this is for our greater good, but you just never know. It's scary.

So, according to you, anyone who got the vaccine just "jumped on the bandwagon" and didn't think for themselves or do their own research? anyone who got the vaccine didn't make their own decision? That is so far from reality it isn't funny.

Employers would be absolved because they aren’t forcing employees to get it, it’s just what they mandate if you want to work for a company. So employees have a choice to not get it, but then the employers have the right to cut ties.

I'm at the doctor's office every other week since I had my 2nd dose. Experience that and then tell me about being dramatic.
They have same day PCR test available at my local urgent care if done before noon next day results if done after noon. CVS turn around is also 24/30 hours.
