Re: NYC SCHOOLS
3% seems to be a very low threshold to close all schools. That's a bit crazy

DeBlasio is following some deal he made with the Teacher's Union. That's what he's following.

Carranza just said they have a 0.19% positivity rate... So unfair that they close because NYC as a whole is 3%.

3% was the number they agreed upon during doe and uft negotiations to get teachers back to work and stop striking back in aug/sept

No no, it’s all based on science and data. The super spreader play dates, Halloween and no one wearing masks.

and Coumo saying he is SURE it will spike after people getting together for Thanksgiving.
Does anyone really believe these numbers anymore?

I’m worried for NJ because Moron Murphy follows NY because he can’t come up with his own plans and doesn’t know to segment his state in to regions. I wonder if he’s ever saw a map of NJ?

They must be looking at the same crystal ball that my sons school is looking at. I can’t even anymore, tbh.

Yes, the Teacher's Union pushed for 3% to be the threshold - so as much as DeBlasio might be an idiot, this was the Teacher's Union's doing.

We don't have that same deal with our Union presidents so...
Cuomo came on with one of his famous slides back when school re-opens for the Fall were being discussed. Per the slide it was under 5% infection rate to reopen and if it hits 9% they have to close. So this shouldn't even be an issue yet.

Re: NYC SCHOOLS
I feel terrible for all of these kids. I feel bad for the parents also, but it's the kids that are being hurt the most.
I know that anyone can pull up a statistic to support their argument, but in my experience schools are not the spreaders. My son's school has been open full time in person since August, about 850 students. We are in one of those "bad" states, shunned by NY. I think our rate was 7% last time I checked. But yet we are making it work for the kids. Shame on the union or mayor, whoever. Schools can do this safely, they are just not willing to try, shameful.

I haven't watched the press conferences but I did hear Cuomo talk about schools staying open. With the way it's spreading minimally in school but through all the socializing outside of school he seemed to think kids were safest in school.

Yep. Sadly the kids are the one's to suffer from this. I cannot tell you the difference in my daughter from the spring to now. She's back to being the bright, motivated, well adjusted child she was. By June she had lost all that and I was very concerned. She's doing better with the more difficult 5th grade math this year than she was with the 4th grade math. She's sailing through. All because she's in school with a teacher every single day.
I do believe schools need to be deemed essential. Masks, 6ft apart, no gathering in the lunch room, the specials coming to them, plastic around the desks, whatever they need to do. Hell, I'll send her in a freaking hazmat suit if I have to. But they need to stay open just like Target, the supermarkets and the liquors stores did throughout this.

If he really cared about schools staying open, he could have done something.

The reason why liquor stores stayed open was to not overload the hospitals with alcoholics not being able to drink. It did help the rest of us though who needed a drink here and there :)

They are safer in school. At school they are supervised and made to wear their masks, stay apart, wash their hands. At home, people gather for play dates, at the park, sleep overs etc. Better off in school to be honest

Pretty sure UFT would strike if they didn’t close at 3% like they agreed. It’s too bad that they couldn’t be flexible since the data is showing that schools aren’t vectors.

Totally agree. I just saw a commercial for that Casino in Queens is open? How is that open, but schools are closed?
