Any predictions of whether they will open or close? I say if it's only 5-8 in that's not really too bad and think they will be open.

Most likely open.
But 5-8 IMO is bad enough not to drive in.

I will never understand this.
The governor has declared a state of emergency for NY and yet NYC still doesn't know if they will close the schools?
Thats a bunch of BS!

They canceled all PDs at the district office tomorrow, and I heard a rumor from someone who works at Tweed that they would close....but you never know with the DOE!

According to their FB page they said to assume school is open tomorrow. Such BS...the Governor declared a state of emergency but it's OK for students, teachers and staff to risk their safety to get to school one day..makes no sense.

Take a cab? Is your AP serious?

I really can't stand NYC DOE . They expect us to get there in any conditions. I've gone for every single snowstorm, was there the day after Sandy, but I think tomorrow I am finally giving in and staying home regardless of their decision.

I was always told the reason was two fold, that because of mass transportation and most parents are working parents, they stay open.

I told my boss the same thing. I am 8 months pregnant and I commute from LI to the Bronx. On my couch I will stay.

I was always told the same, that if the school closed it would pose a problem for working parents. Which I understand- but unless they are essential services or work at Walmart Chat Icon Chat Icon their work should be closed since it is a state of emergency.

Anyway, I hope the schools are closed tomorrow. I am no longer an NYC teacher but I spent many years trying to get in when the roads were bad.

I remember a teacher-blogger recounting a story from when Guiliani was mayor- Guiliani said something like, "anyone who's on the road is an idiot," which this teacher heard him say in his car as he drove to his school. Chat Icon

My dad commutes from eastern LI to BKLYN...I hope for his sake the schools are closed! Last blizzard he got in an accident on the way home (luckily everyone was ok).

I really do not understand how there can be a state of emergency and the schools can be open. They say to stay off the roads, yet expect teachers to go in, and people to put their kids on school buses. It's insane!

Send text that says NYC schools to 877 877 and you will get updates, I saw on FB.

I'm staying home tomorrow, not doing the LI to Harlem commute.

Why are NYC schools so ridiculous ? Here in New Jersey ,everything closes when the weather is bad. What is the city's obsession with staying open at all costs !!?

Absolutely not going in. I live in Medford and work in Queens for one. Secondly, I am pregnant. Thirdly, are they fuc$ing kidding me that we're supposed to risk our lives?!? This new mayor will be NO different! Where is the respect and decency that the Long Island Superintendents give to their employees? SMH
