NYC schools and snow
I wish you were right...they just put the kids in the auditorium with whoever comes in (there's always those that make it) and show movies all day...

Re: NYC schools and snow
I have a 2 hour commute on a normal day! Not risking my life to babysit! The mayor himself said, we have to think of the working parents! So we are just a free babysitting service? I usually try but after the blizzard last year when I spent 8+hours getting home because the principal wouldn't allow me to leave early, I'm done!
I also love the "take mass transit ..." 1. I don't live within walking distance of a train station so I would still need to drive! 2. On a normal day it would take me about an hour longer to use mass transit! So how much longer in a blizzard? Maybe I will leave my house at 4am! 3. Saw on FB the trains are running on a weekend schedule! I don't really use mass transit often but I think this means less trains!
My husband's LI district decided at 10:30am to close schools tomorrow. This gives working parents the chance to make arrangements if necessary!
Was hopeful this Mayor would be in our corner but I guess we will see in the morning!

NYC schools and snow
I wonder if they will do an absence appeal like they did when they opened schools on a Friday with no kids after Sandy

And didn't they cancel all after school activities? So don't working parents still need to make accommodations/leave work early?

Exactly!
And what…NYC is the only place with working parents? Bunch of idiots!
And I agree with the comment about the new mayor. Don't see this guy growing a pair. AT ALL.

Re: NYC schools and snow
I've gone in for one too many snowstorms. It's not worth it, so I can get coverages and they just throw random kids in my classroom because there aren't enough teachers? Not worth the driving risk. Plus I work in eastern queens which they aways do a sh$t job plowing & there are no parking spots. No thanks! My kids' district is closed tomorrow, so I have to stay home anyway.

Why are NYC schools so ridiculous ? Here in New Jersey ,everything closes when the weather is bad. What is the city's obsession with staying open at all costs !!?
BC if they closed schools (or anything else) the city would have to pay the teachers and city workers for the day off. This way, they force people to take their own days off at no cost to them.

Re: NYC schools and snow
My kids school is closed so I am staying home It is so ridiculous, everyone stay home, stay off the roads, but teachers you must go in. Mass transportation really isn't an option for everyone the one train near me will not be running today we had so many absent tomorrow will be a ghost town
