NYC teachers - paid maternity leave?
Hi...
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. I'm due Dec. 31st and have been going back and forth w/just about everyone on what to do about my maternity leave.
I was told by my payroll sec. today that I get a 6 week paid maternity leave. However, when I went to the UFT maternity meeting I wrote down that you get 6 weeks of absence unpaid once the baby is born. If you look at the UFT website it kind of says the same (they seem to interchange maternity leave w/leave of absence without pay for restoration of heath).
Does anyone know which info is correct?
TIA

You can only get paid for those six weeks if you have days in the bank. After those six weeks are over and you still need time you are on a unpaid FEMLA leave up to a total of 12 weeks. Hope this helps
