NYC trs to NYS trs
DH was tier 4 in NYC and got a job this year on LI. He just received a letter saying they want transfer his service credit until he is in two years? Everything I read says that it just transfers? Does anyone have experience?

I think I might have answers my own question- NYC has to send the form and what is in his QPP is the payment. He asked his new district but they said they haven't had anyone actually get a job from the city ?? So they have no idea!

you can call NYSTRS ... they are pretty knowledgeable. When your DH received a LI job and filled out NYSTRS sign-up he should have indicated he was current member of NYC TRS. Your DH has to file this form with NYC TRS and then it should be taken care of by the systems from there https://www.trsnyc.org/WebContent/tools/pdf/RW39.pdf The individual district he works for really has nothing to do with it; NYSTRS will tell them when transfer is complete.

yes, he will receive any excess contributions in a refund check once transfer is complete. it may take over a year or two but it will happen. small price to pay for landing on LI!

Oh that's good. Plus it's a forced savings so I don't mind!
It only took him 12 years to get a job on LI so there is hope for anyone!
