Re: NYS Budget Cuts

WHY EDUCATION??????

Logically, if more New Yorkers had better, more affordable

educations, that would come full circle and require less

money from the government to help these people later

on in life......but that would make too much sense!

Re: NYS Budget Cuts

I'm going to play devil's advocate here, but SUNY tuition had not been raised in 5 years, and it's only been raised twice in 11 years. It was time for an increase in tuition, though I think it should have been implemented as a more minor increase implemented over the past 5 years on a gradual basis.

I do have to agree. I attended Oneonta from 2000-2004 and we had 1 tuition increase and it had been years since they had done so. Based on what I read this morning, it's only going up $300 in the spring 2009 and fall 2009 unless I misunderstood that.

Patterson (not that I agree with everything he has said/done) said that all these cuts are necessary across the board due to extreme circumstances NYS is experiencing. He's trying to NOT raise state taxes.

Not to mention, he has taken away all contractual raises to state employees and he's promised to not lay off workers for this year & next - which is what we all needed to hear right now b/c it will effect workers like myself, teachers, etc.

I agree as well. If these tution increases keep jobs stable, then right now, that is the best thing for the overall state and economy

agreed. stinks but the sad fact of the matter is that the state revenues have suffered b/c of the Wall Street problems. Good for Patterson for trying to fix this without raising taxes. NY pays enough in taxes as it is!
